In recognition of this event, here’s a video from the (2015?) Alembic NorCal Gathering in which we play one of the wonderful songs on the album: Candyman.   I invite all you Alembic/Deadheads to post a vid of you/your band doing a tune from American Beauty.  Any takers?

HGB did Friend of the Devil and Ripple every so often, but I don't think they ever got caught on tape... Ripple was a rare one for us. There was this one guy who would request it, we never knew when he would show up, but Gabe always had it ready. "Hey y'all, the Ripple Guy's here... we gotta' work that one in..." Brian always complained it was too campy. I liked to finish out the night with it. Everybody does Friend I guess...

No vids of any songs from American Beauty that I can recall other than the video link I posted this summer of Axial Tilt playing Cream Puff War> Attics of My Life which can be found here...

I bought my copy of American Beauty in St Moritz, Switzerland over Christmas break in 1970. I went to college in Switzerland and spent the holidays with a friend from the states who was living and working in St Moritz. In Europe they used to let you listen to records before buying and I did that frequently, at least the listening part, but I did buy a few records despite having no way to play them. We took my copy of American Beauty to one of the discos in town and got the DJ to play it for us. Great album that has really stood the test of time. "Till the Morning Comes" it is one of my bucket list GD tunes and the only one on American Beauty that I have never played live.

I love that album!  Haven’t played those tunes since college bands, but the CD is a permanent fixture in my car, I love driving to that album :)
