What won't they think of next?
« on: September 21, 2022, 08:09:27 AM »
C.F. Martin has just introduced the new "Super D"; a dreadnought shape, but with 20% more air volume.  Banjers & mandos beware!

Peter (who will add that you can now pre-order one from CME in either Guatemalan rosewood or koa - both topped with Sitka - for $4,999)

I need to draft a strongly-worded letter of concern to C.F. IV this evening... :scowl:

*in case anyone want to track the saga on UMGF- https://umgf.com/new-custom-shop-super-d-t221391.html#p2702184

Looks like they're getting into Mariachi band giant guitar territory!

You guys remember the 7/8ths size Dreadnought? I bet those things are rarer than hen's teeth now.

Here's an old ad for a 7-28.

Well, shucky-ducky. Looking at the commentary over on UMGF, this cockamamie notion of an over-sized Dreadnought guitar seems to be better-received than I'd have thought. I have absolutely no interest in one. I kinda' hope Fret Mill orders one, so I can play it, (so I can say I did) but in my opinion, a 12-fret D was plenty big, cubic inch-wise. But hey... I'm probably not their target market for much of anything made after 1930.

Now if they made it into an acoustic bass guitar... a real one. Well, I might get more open-minded.
