Rosie's picture book
« on: August 27, 2022, 06:51:36 AM »
Rosie McGee's photo book arrived!

Its fantastic and truly a work of love.  Those images make the band very people-like and show a perspective other photo books haven't captured, prob cos she was one of the people :). Mickey's ranch looks like heaven!

I hope some others on the forum participated in this project.  It was totally worth the wait!
The only thing that stays the same is change.

Still waiting on mine.  She had 400 shipped before catching Covid.  The remaining 600 will probably go out next week.  Since my surname is at the end of the alphabet, mine will be in the last batch signed / shipped.
Casual fan of GD, so these photos will be a revelation.

mine arrived this week as well...

She did a great job on it and the cover is a work of art.  I wish she had offered slipcases or covers though so that the cover doesn't get damaged over time.

I didn't opt for a signed copy so mine went out in the first shipment and came last Saturday. Great book but unfortunately mine arrived with a damaged cover, there is a wrinkle in the front cover and the rear cover was banged at some point and the lower back cover and pages have a crimp at the outside bottom corner. Having the books shrink-wrapped to protect them seemed like a good idea but the shrink-wrap was really tight and I suspect  the added tension is the reason the covers crimped. Could have happened at the printer when being shrink-wrapped or during handling. The box it was shipped in seemed sturdy and was fine.

Along with lots of great photos of the Dead there are some excellent photos of the Jefferson Airplane members and what is now my favorite shot of John Cippolina. The first photo in the book taken during soundcheck at the Pico Acid test is a brilliant way to set the tone of the rest of the book. The stories that accompany the photos are well written and lots of fun. This book and Susana Millman's book are my favorite two Dead photo project books. There are other photographers that captured great shots of the band on stage but the two books of photos from family members showing an inside perspective are priceless.

Cool, looking forward to it!  Being a V I tend to be at the end of the list as well, but once in a while some get shown the light and do reverse alphabetic order  :)

HA! That reminds me…..all through Junior High School (grade 7,8,9) and half way through highschool elective classes were chosen alphabetically….could never get an art class with a last name starting with “T”.  My Ma started raising hell about this (she worked in the school system) and in my Junior year, they reversed the alphabet every quarter to make it a more equitable system.  Go Ma!

Well, I thank your mom for her efforts!  I thank Rosie too, she must have abandoned the alphabetical protocol as I received my book today…very nice, well done !  :)

Rosie sent an update today.  She is back from Covid and shipped 100+ copies yesterday....says all copies will be out this week.

StephenR, Rosie will be holding an Ebay auction selling 200 copies this weekend.....and another 300 will arrive the end of September.  I'd get a hold of her right away to get a replacement copy while they still exist.

Thanks Gary! I have been reluctant to ask for a replacement copy since there are so few. If it was a large publishing house it would be a different story. Letting her know that I suspect the shrink-wrap may have contributed to, or caused, the cover damage may happen in case she orders a second run of books. My sense is that Rosie and whoever is helping her pack and ship the books have been careful handling them and the box it was shipped in was sturdy and undamaged.

Yeah. Since it wasn’t signed….no one probably caught the damage. If Rosie saw a damaged cover while signing, she surely wouldn’t send it out.

My signed copy came today.    Beautiful, very classy looking book … and that’s just the cover!   Skimming through it, great pics.   Looking forward to taking some time to relax with the book and my pipe tonight.

Still waiting. There was a bit of confusion about my address, so I'm hoping the signed copy will arrive.
