Jazzyvee, I like your video about the Elan bass. It's a nice sounding bass. Is that your main bass you play on gigs with?

Are you related to Aaron Mills, the bass player from Cameo? LOL

Actually it is the bass I have gigged the least with. Most of the time I used it when I was in the house band at a local pub open mic night. Never let anyone play it though. Since that video I have had it refinished and removed all the purple except the back of the headstock and had a refret done at the same time. It looks incredible now and I hope to get more opportunities to play it live. It's a really big, clear and punchy, and powerful sounding bass.

Is it more powerful than the 70s and 80s Series 1s?

Here is a thread you may find interesting.
In one reply Mica informs us that the p-style pickups are the loudest ones they make.

There's very little different with 70s Series I/II - the flatpack ICs were exhausted by the mid-late 70s and we changed from the coaxial pickup connectors around the same time. Since the 80's I can't think of any changes, except the RF upgrade, which has no effect on output or tone. You can always turn the gains way up on the Series I/II, generally enough to distort an amplifier.

Yes, the P pickup is the loudest naturally - but there are preamps to equalize things. Just a shame that that strong P is usually paired with the anemic JZ pickup, so there's just turn up the JZ and turn down the P to match.

Who knows if we are related. I do have family over in the USA with the same surname.
That said, on one of my trips back home to St Kitts in 2013, my uncle told us that my grandmother's sister is the mother of a really famous american actor who shall remain nameless. I have never met the person nor have any idea if they know they have family in the UK.

...and of note, Jazzy's (formerly purple) Elan has two P-shaped pickups, twice the power.

You see Elan models with all different configurations, just like the Persuader that it more-or-less replaced in the line. Mine has the more common P/J set, but with a modern harness (or loom, for Jazzy  ;) ) that has a Volume/Pan/Filter and upon Mica's suggestion, I added a 3-position Q-switch. Later, I upgraded to the new Pan preamp to help with the inherent output balance differential, but even beforehand, I had started relying upon the P neck pickup for the workload and using the J bridge pickup more as a tone function. It's possible now to solo that one out, volume-wise, but it's... uhhh... it's a Telecaster. And not a Telecaster bass, if you get my drift. Too Much Boing for Greg. The good news is, there's plenty of it!  ;D

It was my first Alembic, so there's always that bias, but I've played Series basses too. If you can't get what you need out of these electronics, it ain't the basses fault.

That's a very nice persuader you have Greg. My 80s Distillate (I'm playing in this early 1992 picture) had that same type of top horn.
