Nichelle Nichols has passed at 89. TOS was my favorite Star Trek.

We lost two civil rights icons today, Bill Russell and Nichelle Nichols.

No one wore the Star Fleet female uniform better!

She will be missed.

I need to go back and watch the Original Series again. I kinda' missed out on the first run of it, didn't care about it in the 70's, because Star Wars movies took over, and then Roddenberry's Next Generation flipped a switch on me. I am resisting with all my might the Picard run now.

Yeah, I really need to go back to the beginning.

“Girls in space, be wary…”

I’m pretty sure Spock plays an early—eh, I mean future—Alembic model here:

Those later things may well be fine sci-fi - but if it ain't got Nemoy & Shatner, IT AIN'T STAR TREK!!!!!

I grew up on re-runs of TOS, as I was only 2 years old when it started. But it remained the only Star Trek version I cared about for many many years. I even love love the original pilot, The Menagerie, with Captain Pike and the touching story of the character Vina. We named our most recent kitten Vina after her.

During the pandemic, I bit the bullet and watched every single other Star Trek series incarnation start to finish,
and found something to enjoy with each of them.

Here’s the original Vina (the lovely Susan Oliver), and our little (ok getting big) Vina.
