[SOLD] TC/AE-1 Activator Set (Telecaster Electronics)
« on: July 21, 2022, 05:06:27 PM »
From an earlier project, a set of Alembic Activators made to fit a Telecaster;

I will throw in a different control plate (if you want one) but the gold one with the slanted switch slot is staying with the guitar. I'm gifting it to somebody else to re-project. I might have another pickguard too, but if you're interested in these electronics, you probably already have one. It's stock Fender plastic... go ebayin'.

Included (and this is what you really want) are the pickups, a Volume/Filter/3-position Q-switch, battery connector, and 1/4" mono jack.

So here's the glitch - the jack is wonky. It only likes certain plugs. It works perfectly with exactly one cable in my house. It works intermittently with two other cables. It refuses to work at all with some. I have no logical explanation for this, but hey, I'm like that too sometimes. The electronics are awesome. It's a Tele with zap. Feed it to an amp and hang on.

If you ain't a Wire Dunce like me, Alembic will sell you a new jack for $12 right here.  https://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/1moouja.html

So, $650. Hit my email button.

Stay tuned for some more blue light deals in the coming days, weeks, months...

If I can ask, why are you selling these, Greg?   If I didn’t already have an Alembicized Tele (2011 American Standard with added Q) I’d be making an offer.   I really like the Alembic PUs in a Tele.  I think you’ve seen this before, here’s mine.

Well, the short, optimistic version Bill... if they ever get me back to a place where I can play guitar again, the Little Darling, Aglaope fills that sonic space just fine. It's quite remarkable how many sounds that little guitar can do. I still haven't let go of the dream guitar yet either; a guitar take on a Retro body Brown Bass. The quote is pinned to the wall in my shop as a reminder. It's just harder to imagine being able to play it, and therefore, hard to justify committing to the build.

Nah, the biggest gripe I had with this Telecaster was nothing to do with the sound, it was the guitar itself. It sounded fine, just never felt quite right to me. I have a buddy who wants to mod it to suit him and he likes the way it plays so I'm gifting him the guitar and recouping some of my $$$ on the project. There will be more to come.

Jazzy, there used to be a chain of discount retail stores here in the U.S. called K-mart. At various points throughout the day, an announcement from overhead would boom out; "ATTENTION K-MART SHOPPERS, TODAY'S BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL IS..." and there would be a stampede of shopping carts in the direction of a spinning blue light. Didn't matter what it was, you had to go see.  ;D

K-mart is all but gone now.

Okay folks, hopefully BeenDown found his choppers...

So I removed these activators from the guitar last night, and mounted them on a chrome plate. Springs and mounting screws packaged with 'em. You'll need some knobs. Import knobs will not work. (I was going to include some...)

I tried playing it again before I unplugged for the last time... and again, only one cable I have will work. This makes no sense to me at all. But it's been that way from the get-go. I probably screwed it up on installation. I've got half a mind to just order a new one and send with set. I hate to give away that one cable. It's one of those old spring-edy ones that looks like a telephone cord, back when phones had cords, and you had to stretch it to the back porch so your Mom couldn't hear you talkin' sweet-nuthin' to Sugar-cubes.

Anyway. Here they are...

Still got these. Reached out to Alembic for advice on which jack I need... something about a capacitor, or not... not sure which to order.

I'm workin' on it.  ;)

Mine just use a regular stereo jack acting like an on/off switch.  No added capacitor.

I have a baritone tele build coming up that I would love to use these in.

I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't work for a baritone scale Tele. The pickups fit standard routs, but I had to to dig out the control cavity to make room for a battery. Hit me if you get into it.

I would work perfectly. I haven't built the body yet so I can adjust the cavity depth for what is needed. Just need to budget for the pickup system.

Here is a sample of what these things can do, (in the hands of an insanely skilled player)-

By the way, I have ordered a replacement 1/4" jack for the set here... and a new Alembic shirt for me. ;)
