Still loving my Orion Guitar
« on: July 14, 2022, 05:34:16 PM »
I've just got home from rehearsal with a new band. Put together by the saxophonist, for a local Jazz festival. I. haven't really done many guitar gigs since my touring with Apache Indian came to an end. For about a year my Orion guitar was my main touring guitar. It's done lots of gigs in Europe, USA and Canada.
Recently after getting a number of requests to play guitar on some gigs I decided to dust this Orion off. I'm so glad I did, it sounded as awesome as I remember at rehearsal and i'm so glad to get the opportunity to gig with it again.  I took it to rehearsal this evening with the Jazz guintet and it sounded superb whether in mellow jazz settings, Jazz-funk or chopping through some reggae infused jazz. I'm taking it to a large reggae festival this coming Sunday and possibly a Jazz festival a week on Saturday.

So cool to see Alembic guitars here. I've never heard one, other than Jerry. I'd LOVE to hear yours. PLEASE post some if you can ... :)

When i bought mine i'd never heard or seen one. Now I have just heard mine mostly and some at the Annual (is that still a thing) alembic gathering i went to in 2012. I will see what I can find in terms of the sound of the guitar, but i doubt if there is much because i used the guitar for touring around Europe and not sure what video of those shows there are.
OK I found one from one of our UK Dates in maybe 2006 /2007 Not great video quality though.

I don’t believe Jerry ever played a true Alembic guitar on stage.   While Wolf was born at Alembic, it sported 1954 Fender Alnico 3 pickups by the time Jerry was playing it.  Without Alembic pickups and electronics, a guitar doesn’t sound like an Alembic.

I had a good but short gig with my Orion guitar yesterday afternoon at a large reggae festival guesting on guitar with a friend's band. Although we didn't have a soundcheck and any kind of line check I was greeted with a Fender Twin Amp ( same as my own) so all was good from that point. The only effect I used was reverb from the amp and a my MXR Dyna Comp compressor and it sounded good from where I was standing. If there are any photos from the gig I will post on the forum.
