Now that I have a few gigs under my bat belt with the Bat Bass, I am convinced it is the best Series I have owned.  After the concert last night, the sound guy came over to me and thanked me for having a rig and bass that requires only plugging in to his direct box.  No need for him to fiddle to get the EQ right.  I knew part of that was the bass, but I also was running through my F1X which also has a lot to do with it.  I knew the bass was great when multiple audience members came up to me on the break, and commented on how amazing the bass sounded.  While i was playing, I could hear the "slap back" of the highs from the bass bouncing back to me on stage from the back of the outdoor venue.  It was indeed the perfect tone.  What really puzzles me is how full this bass sounds with an incredible commanding low end.  You would never guess it was a short scale.  The other thing I was very pleased with was the stability of the neck.  Outdoors in the humidity as evening rolled in, usually affects a neck so that it will tend to back bow.  This bass did not move at all, and played perfectly all evening long.  I knew Series basses were the shizzle for loud playing and massive concerts, but this one is just better than any I have played previously.  It must have been kismet that I found it or that it found me.

Fantastic!  The combination of mahogany and ebony must be just right in that bass.  Great photo too, a very cool looking bass :)

Regarding your rig, just wondering how many rack spaces is your Samson amp, and what do you have plugged into the second input on the F-1X?

Thanks for sharing and congrats on the convergence!

I run the Samson bridged to get the 4500 watts, which requires a specially wired Speakon cable.  The amp is 2 space.  The cable going to the second input is from my backup bass I have sitting on my guitar stand.  I leave it plugged in just in case something ever happens and I have to grab it in the middle of a song.

Oh, and by the way, the neck recipe in this bass is mostly purple heart with the center stringers of mahogany.  Mica says it is a great tone combo.

Love that bass. And not surprised about the effect of that neck, especially on a short scale. Rigidity, yet, dampening warmth, melded together.

What's the significance of "Moon Pie"? I didn't think anybody outside of the Southeastern U.S. even knew about them! (if we're thinking about the same thing, that is...)

Moon Pies are a delicacy in Maine, that along with Moxie.   :)

Bat bass is definitely cool looking, continue to play it in good health!

Moon pies were immortalized in song by NRBQ back in the 70s, Terry Adams grew up in Louisville... you can really hear the Monk influence in his playing on this track.

No way - Maine?! Most enjoyed with an RC or a Nehi down here.

(for our friends elsewhere, Rob and me are talking about the cookie of all cookies... chocolate covered graham crackers and marshmallows, and soda-pop)

I got that "Moon Pie" nickname after coming to a gig with a box of those for my fellow musicians to eat.  We all ended up giving each other funny names like Lester "Cornbread" Crawford, and Gemi 'Chitlins" Taylor.  I had mine immortalized in my custom leather strap.

Cool nick name Story :)

…and my mistake, in Maine it’s the Whoopie Pie that is the specialty.

…and I love that NRBQ tune! :)

That's fantastic! I never dreamed Moon Pies were available beyond a bomb crater of here. I'll be the first to admit during my days as a performer I would gladly have swapped our string endorsement for a deal with Little Debbie. And probably come home from Nashville heavier than 145 lbs.

So glad to hear the Bat Bass is working again.  8)
