[SOLD] Rosie is on the market 75-183 S1 Omega 4 str.
« on: May 23, 2022, 11:54:32 AM »
Greg will probably tell me to lie down until the feeling passes, and he is probably right, but I am considering selling Rosie…
75-183 Series 1 Omega.
Top: Zebrawood
body: Mahogany
back: Zebrawood
neck: Maple and Vermilion 5-piece
scale: 32" medium
fingerboard: Rosewood
inlays: Abalone
Many here are familiar with the story.  I purchased her in 91 or so, then sold her.  Then (with much effort and expense!) retrieved her from Japan a few years ago.  I just don’t play her enough to justify having such a wonderful instrument.  And I have a non-musical purchase I want to fund.
Minimal checking in finish.  Inlays somewhat worn.  Brass side markers faded, but I touched up with tiny dots of glow paint. (Can be rubbed off if you don’t like.)  Saddles we’re badly worn when I got her back so I made new ones out of brass blocks.  I believe the frets were redone when she was not in my possession.  Probably when it was at the Mother ship in 99, when Mica says it was updated.  I assume that was the RF update (?).    (I’m just guessing that’s where the frets were redone, maybe Mica can verify if needed.) Regardless, I would say frets are in very good shape. Back of neck at headstock was cracked when I first bought her and this was repaired at Mothership, and Mr. Wickersham redid the electronics, this was when I first had her, probably mid-90’s.  You can still feel the crack, but just barely.  I repaired the upper strap button with glue and a dowel, can hardly tell, works great.  I installed a Drop D-tuner, but have original tuning key.  (I think used original holes, don’t think I had to drill any new holes, but can’t remember.  When I take photos I’ll update if I did.).  Have strap locks, I think their the Dunlop style, can’t remember what they are called.  I guess I’ll include a nice wide leather strap since it works with the locking buttons.  Have OHSC (in decent shape, some stickers, still closes, I still use it), blue power box, five pin cable, stereo/mono cable, and flight case.  (Flight case is purple!  Sorry!  But I didn’t want it black like every other case!)
PM me if you would like photos.  There are some circulating in old posts.  I will try to add some photos to this post later this evening.  My thoughts are to PM me if you are interested, with an offer.  If I don’t get any offers that I think are appealing I’ll probably just keep her.  I think I would rather do that than post a price.  The price of these is so subjective. And I am going to try and keep my personal feelings out of the price somewhat.😊, but that will be hard, considering the history.   If you guys think I should handle differently, just let me know.  You have never let me down before.  thanks!

Yeah, go lie down!!!

I swear Allen, I just felt the dadgum world shift while I was filing Status Reports for today, just like it did two years ago in the middle of the night when you showed up here.

If you seriously decide to sell that bass again, send me your address.

Also think you should take a step back, and a deep breath, before doing something you will regret later.

So you can come down and slap some sense into me?!😊.  I expect I will sell her.  I am not playing musicals, no bands, no recording, just playing at church, and not very often, where I plug direct, and have a very mid to bass sound, which stays the same for almost every tune.  My son plays guitar, I asked him about it, and he doesn’t care.  Been longer than two years, hasn’t it?  Seems like it.

well i for one would say do what ya gotta do.  and don't look back.  i've had 9 alembic basses slip through my hands over the years, some voluntarily, some not.  it always sucks letting a bass go, but if it's not getting played then it's just expensive wall art (or closet storage).  and instruments like these deserve a better fate.

imho of course, ymmv and all that rot.

I had a great time catching up with Allen on the phone last night... this old bass of his and me have a weird telepathic connection, and I'm waffling again this morning thinking about how to make it work. I'd have to part with at least one or more other basses/guitars I like to make it feasible. Anybody who want a Classic Alembic, this is IT, right here... one of the very first made. It's been tweaked at the Mothership. At some point, GFAO (Go Find Another One) applies, and I don't get the sense he's much in a mind to let the flippersharks bat it around the internet and jack it up, so if you want a nice old bass, you guys better beat me to it. Please beat me to it.

i've said that a few times when something really exceptional (like this) pops up.  sometimes it works.  sometimes not so much.

so sayeth the old codger sporting a recently acquired retirement SII.

I’ll try a bit larger… to large and they are not posting
One of these shows some of the abalone inserts worn. One shows my homemade bridge blocks.  (Not ship us a terrible job in my opinion, and and very satisfying having done the work on my own!😊).

One showing my strap button repair.  I am going to include several to try and show where the crack was at the neck/head laminate.  It is barely perceptible by feel.  But I will post as many photos as necessary to try and be up front on the repair.  Did not bother me even before repaired, just a crack at the joining of the two woods.  But since I was sending her in for electronics, thought I would have it repaired.  I don’t think they did much to it, that was a long time ago.  … early to mid 90’s.

Trying to show aging of the sealant coat.  I have polished with Alembics polish. But I don’t know what care was given when out of my hands.  IMHO… checking is not very bad, have seen much much worse.

Finish on back of neck, hip shot, and original key.  Please let me know if you want any more photos.  If someone is interest and we come to a general agreement, I will send photos of the cases.  Or I will send on request, or post if someone wants to see them.

I forgot that when I got it back it had a non-original screw (Phillips rather than flat) on the battery cover.  Meant to replace that, and I may do so.

I will also try and post a sound sample, just to show you she works.

FYI… I live in Birmingham, Alabama.  Considering shipping costs, depending on where the buyer lives… my preference would be to meet somewhere.  She has a flight case, if someone wants to fly here, to Bhm, Montgomery, or Huntsville.  Or I can drive for a few hours in any direction to meet up.   Nashville and Atlanta are about three hours from me.  Mobile, AL about four hours south.

Price… I don’t want to price myself out of a sale, but I understand not making an offer without know my idea of value.  I also know, based on what I see on Reverb, I may be leaving a thousand dollars or so out there.  I know what I paid to get her back recently.  I understand her rarity.  When I got her back I said it would take $10,000.00 for me to ever part with her again.  That may be a bit high.  But if I held on to her for a few more years, probably not by much.   I don’t have to sell her, and while I try not to get emotionally attached to objects… a bit hard to avoid here, for the history.  So, $10K plus shipping is the asking price.

OR…..   if you have an Essence 4 you would like to trade, I would consider working out a trade, the Essence plus whatever cash we work out for the S1.

I will certainly entertain offers, but I doubt I will sell for less than $8K. If someone wants to send me a certified check for $10K plus say… $250 for shipping expenses, (to some state in the CONUS… outside CONUS I would need to see actual cost of shipping.). . Its yours and I’ll refund whatever is left from the $250 after shipping.  And sorry, I will have to have full payment before I ship.  I understand you are taking all the risk… I can FaceTime you if that helps.  (Sold a motorcycle recently and that seemed to gain assurance.). My wife has Venmo, so I guess we can work something out with that if you like.   If we are going to meet up somewhere to exchange, we’ll figure out some deposit to hold it.  Final caveat… I guess this goes without saying, but just to be understood, I reserve the right to sell to whomever I want, regardless of the price.

Hurry, before I change my mind!😁.   Thanks again, Allen

I’m not sure I can take Venmo.  I guess I would prefer a cashiers check.  If you want to do Venmo, we’ll explore it, and I’ll try and make it work, but I can’t say for sure.  Thanks
