1998 Alembic Series II 5 string bass.

I am skeptical about offering this bass for sale, but I think the time has come. The main reason I am thinking about offering this bass is I have reverted back to a 4 string bass almost exclusively. The bass is a monster, it is 11 pounds (human scale) and it has a 35 inch scale. When I got this bass I thought scale length maybe too big for me (I am not a large person), but I have no issue at all (at least for me). I actually think the extra length contributes to the sound of this bass. This bass is by far the best sounding bass I have ever played (I have played a lot). All the notes ring like a grand piano and the B and E strings are thunderous. The sustain is incredible and in the studio there is none better.

My wife is telling me not to sell, but I think my heard has gotten too big. I maybe selling a Linc Luther 5 string fretless Brazilian Rosewood body pick ivory neck and a Kelvin Daly too.

Back to the Series II

Specs:
Series II
Burl Brazilian Rosewood Top and Back
Stinger body shape
Ebony neck laminates with beautiful flamed maple
Abalone neck inlays
Red side LEDs
Batteries are in a compartment tucked inside the panel with the trim pots
Condition: mint

I believe this is the closest you can get to a 5 string 25th anniversary - I do not believe Alembic made a 5 string 25th anniversary (I could be wrong)

The asking price is 25K, I am not in a hurry to sell. I wanted to post it here first and also get feedback on pricing or anything else.

BTW - I have a problem... Alembic's are an addiction to me.

A couple things I forgot to mention. The bass has red side LEDs and the battery location is tucked in a compartment accessed from the panel with the trimpots. As for condition, I would say it is mint. Just changed the original post.

I will post Kelvin Daly on a new thread, I wasn’t sure if I was going to post it on this site.

i've played a couple of 35" scale instruments and while one skinny little inch doesn't sound like it would make much of a difference (it's only wafer-thin!), it makes a huge difference in the sound and feel.   the last one i had would vibrate my whole body when i played an open B or E on it in my lap unplugged.  definitely a reach even with my long arms to get to the first 3 frets.
i can just imagine what this one's like being a series II with a 35" scale.  but i'll have to keep imagining, as i'm full up on series II's.

awesome bass, good luck with your sale!

<edit>  11 lbs sounds a little light for a bass like this, my current SII comes in at 12.5 (but it's got an ebony top), my ziricote SII weighed in at 13.5.  what a back-breaker!

Been Down, you are correct! I knew the bass was heavy, but I swear I weighed it twice and it was 11 pounds. I just weighed it twice again and it came in at 12.6 lbs. Thanks for pointing this out, because if there was one downside of this bass it is the weight. Not a problem for me as it only saw studio work. I think the weight also plays into the sound, but I can be wrong (I usually am).

Thanks again for pointing this out.

Just weighed it again and it was 12.8 lbs, obviously my scale is not reliable.

Just need to get some matching legs and that would make an ideal coffee table bass!  The wood is amazing, as is the stinger and the rest.  A dream bass for anyone!  GLWTS!

Ok, just got back from the studio and my wife was right (of course) this bass is incredible and I decided to keep it. Please mark this as no longer for sale.
