And 77 611, a guitar my lord.
« on: April 24, 2022, 01:06:50 PM »
This one I purchased from Italy of all places. I think it must have been bouncing around here at some point.
The owner had changed the knobs but at least saved the old ones, which were cracked on the brims.
There were also a couple of new replacement knobs with it from Alembic which had not been used.
So I was able to get it back to original, using the one 70s knob that was not cracked, and another that had been glued in the crack with some kind of clear super glue, plus the two new knobs, which I used on the tone pots. Not sure why they didn’t just buy 4 new knobs! But it looks good now anyway. Not sure what the woods are (other than the Purple Heart neck laminates. Some of you have suggested and I think it’s possible the fingerboard is Purple Heart, I’m looking forward to finding out. It could be rosewood, but there’s something a little purple-ish about it. Very curious about top and back. I’d welcome any guesses from all you experts! Mica will look this one up too but I imagine it might take a while.

At first I thought the top might be two different woods, but if you examine the grain of each half carefully, it appears to be bookmatched, despite the somewhat different shade.

Beautiful guitar, congratulations!  Looks like you have only posted pics of the front so far.  Top looks to me like birch, and the core looks pretty light maybe maple?  Could just be the lighting.  Will be interesting to see what the file says.

That is a fascinating guitar.  8)  I'll just say it - I haven't a clue what it is. Anxiously awaiting the answers on the old index card.

That thing is gorgeous!   I’m going to guess the top and core birch, and the back flame maple…look forward to hearing what the file card says.  Have fun with that!  :)
