Bag End ELF 1 Integrator Discussion

Searched the threads and didn’t find this topic. I just upgraded my ELF 2 to an ELF 1 Integrator. The unit is pre owned so I do not know what the factory settings were. I downloaded the book “Guide To ELF Systems” Version 1.3 and read through it. (Thank you Modular Sound Systems for keeping owners manuals on line for discontinued products). I am fortunate in that my Bag End cabinets were listed in the manual. (S18ELF & TA15 cab)


Got it dialed in roughly and plugged the Essence 6 in. WOW! Wow!  Hit the low B and it was the first time my eyeballs were wobbling in their sockets!  I couldn’t focus on the rack components !


Now, I know some of you have or had this in your toolbox over the years. Could you share some experiences with the settings?


I recall that Jimmy J had one…..could you take a photo of your dipswitch facade? Would I be “Stealing your tone?” 


These are very versatile. Can be used for PA, recording studios & stand alone Bass Rigs.


I do not have Series basses and this can be set up for stereo signals. I believe my Spyders are wired for stereo.  I also may put the F2B back in the rack for 2 channel operation.


Anyway…..would like to hear from y’all if you have any experience with them.


I have to move the rig out to a bigger room before hitting the low B on the Classico!

Hey Gary,

Yeah, that processor is kind of magic, right?  Or some concoction of a Wizard (RW?) which seems to defy all known physics.  Ha!  I actually still own my unit but haven't used it in many years.  You say you found a manual, here's the 2-page version from Bagend:

Those dip switches seem daunting but my suggestion would be to start by "zeroing" it all out and then just experimenting.  The goal is to get a fairly flat but very extended low end to compliment the rest of your rig.  Note the detail about the phase switch - which is pretty interesting.  I'm sure there's a more scientific way to calculate the settings based on the cu.ft of your sealed sub cabinet and driver ... but I have no idea how to do that.

In my kitchen, all my plates / cups in the cabinets have a bit of foam rubber between them!  Always a topic of conversation at parties. I have stereo Cerwin Vega subwoofers on my home stereo. These were the original “Earthquake” subwoofers installed in theaters in the 1970’s. They “were” 48”x48”x20” reverse K cabinets that I converted into 24”x24”x24” cubes. They were tuned to 20Hz and were driven by 360W Cerwin Vega amps.  Using Jeff Rowland Model 1 monoblocks for the same power now. Always been interested in the low end. The old ELF M2 I just recently retired from the bass rig went down to 18Hz but I always wanted to hear / feel the ELF1 as it goes down to 8Hz. I’m driving the S18ELF with a Stewart 2.1 bridged to produce 2,100watts. The TA15 has a Stewart 1.2 bridged to 1,200 watts. This is all academic of course. Not practical for live performance with modern clubs PA’s the way they are now. It is a bit of fun….when the cul-de-sac is empty for the evening to crank up the Spyder 8 and plow through a bit of Entwhistle or “fiddle” with the Classico on a looper.


For those who went to The Gathering X in 2017, this was the bass rig I brought to it from the PNW.


Hey…..isn’t it time for another Gathering?  XI - It Goes To Eleven!  Bass can be played with masks on!


Oh, and to answer the other question….no, I’m Not married so there is no one to put the kibosh on the timber rattling.

I've never seen (or probably never will see it anywhere else) a HPF you can set . . . . to FIVE hertz.  Holy Smokes.

After the Alembic gathering at Bag End my Bass Player (the dude with the Modulus, remember?  Hee hee) went for the Bassault, 4 21" speaker cabs.

When he first got the loaded cabinets Jim at Bag End set the EQ wide open, as each cab has its own ELF tuning built in.  Then gave my friend the unit the OP has and let him play with the rack unit settings until he dialed in the Bassault frequencies desired.

When satisfied Jim set the cabinets to the ELF settings settings on the rack unit.  It was a cool process.
