Passwords
« on: April 18, 2022, 03:04:52 PM »
In another music gear forum I frequent, someone guessed the password of a member and, using that member's identity, started a negotiation as a seller in the For Sale section of the site with another member.  Fortunately, the negotiation fell apart when the fraudster insisted on the Friends & Family payment method of PayPal, which would have facilitated the fraud.  Subsequently, the moderators were able to restore the account to the original member, who had used a weak password.

I mention this story here as a reminder to make sure you are using a strong password on our site, and of course to not use F&F to make a payment to someone you don't know.

Thanks for the info. Just wondering, why is F&F not recommended?

... why is F&F not recommended?

My guess is that because F&F is not supposed to be used for commercial purposes since it avoids fees, the seller could accept the money and not ship anything, and if the buyer then reported the fraudulent transaction to PayPal, he would be admitting that he was breaking Paypal's rules.
