New member from Vermont, U.S.A.
« on: April 07, 2022, 01:44:34 PM »
Hello, I am a middle aged man working in the health care field.  I just purchased a second hand Essence 5.  I am stoked, and I am not even a very proficient bass player.  But, that's about to change.

Mbrucker - Welcome to the camp!
Spend time getting intimate with your new masterpiece of an instrument.  Be aware of the subtle tonal differences that you hear when your plucking/ picking hand moves from the bridge up towards the neck, aggressive vs. tender attacks also open up different nuances.  Then start to explore the tonal variations of the electronics (small knob turns reveal different colors).  When you get that, you now can mess around with all of it and have a nearly endless palette of tones at your finger tips.

Have fun and please post some pictures… we like pictures.

Paul

Welcome to the club. Growing up in New England, Vermont has always been a favorite state. Living in Minnesota I miss the mountains and the colors of Autumn that you have in VT.

Enjoy your new acquisition but beware that while generic G.A.S. can hit one periodically, the Alembic version is more difficult to shake. Sort of like long-term COVID but in a more positive way. I started with a Distillate but now have a Signature Custom and a SC deluxe, Standard Point fretted and fretless Series Is, a SC short scale Series I as well as a Series I Shop Night Custom, and a 6-string Europa.

Show us some photos of your recent find.

Welcome! I used to play in Vermont regularly in the late 80s and early 90s with Shockra. My sister lives in Vergennes, and we always love visiting!

My first attempt to attach a picture of my new Essence.  Also, this bass may not qualify for my formal application to The Club: a Modulus/Alembic BaSSStar.  It is serial number 57, and 6 or 7 years ago, Jerry Dorsch rehabbed the neck to an "as new" condition, and I am very grateful to him.  It has passive electronics around a Lane Poor pickup.

Well howdy mbrucker and welcome to the club.  That’s a real pretty flame top!   One of my main guitars has a Modulus Blackknife neck (and Alembic PUs).   I LOVE it!  One of my all-time favorite necks.

Welcome to the alembic club. It's a firm favorite place for many of us on the internet. Warm friendly members and bags of experienced help when required. I hope your first alembic experience continues to be a joy.
This might help you understand the controls.
