Roland White Obituary
« on: April 03, 2022, 04:14:41 PM »
Received the news earlier today... https://bluegrasstoday.com/roland-white-passes/

(for those who don't recognize the name, he was one of Clarence White's brothers)

I'm trying to remember what year exactly it was Roland came to the Roanoke Bluegrass Weekend, sponsored by AcuTab and the Bluegrass Blog, and taught one of the workshops, but it was close to 20 years ago. 02, maybe '03. Weird that I can't pin it down. Anyway, he was a very kindhearted man, and during one afternoon outdoor jam, he sat in and taught us firsthand the correct way to play Bill Monroe's hit, "In The Pines". (having played in Bill's Bluegrass Boys for a time...) Anyway, that's the meaning of the inscription on my (late) buddy Curt's dobro, just above his autograph.

Greg, I just read about Roland. He was very respected here in LA, too. Playing and sounding good up til the end. We played together just before Covid hit. He was friendly, and had a great vibe.

After reading Roland's obit, i clicked below it for the one for Bobby Atkins - which leaves me with a question, Greg.  Are you kin to Marshall Honeycutt?

Without question. I don't know him, but the exact spelling of the name is telltale. That's cool, I didn't see that. I'll tell my Dad.
