Odd Epic with Excel electronics at GC. This is a combination I have not seen before.

The pickup position reminds me of a Ric 4000 bass.

Greg, your memory amazes me!   You’re like a Rainman when it comes to remembering and finding old threads on specific instruments.   Me? I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday!

Oh, I feel ya'... I spend half my days trying to remember why I came into this room or that, or where in the world I left that other thing I need...  coffee cup, truck keys, etc. The real curse is the things I would like to forget, and can't. But serial numbers, guitars, and dates... gotcha' covered.

I mostly remember this one because it was odd/unusual. For a short time, I had this notion of a Custom Alembic loosely based on a Tobias Growler I was playing as a backup. A single pickup, in the MM/Stingray spot... simpler electronics on an ash-body long-scale.  https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=22712.0

HELLO !!!
So, I took a chance and I am the NEW LUCKY owner of this MASTERPIECE. This bass is 99% perfect. It is everything I want in a bass. I've NEVER seen an ash body before, and I read that Mica really likes it and wants to do more of them.

I am nuts about 3 basses (Not in any order) - Peavey Cirrus, SIRE P7, and Alembic. This bass is all 3 in one. It has the Pao Ferro fretboard, which I LOVE. As Rich Lasner told me, Pao Ferro "blossoms" in tone. That's 100% accurate description. It has a 12" radius, Mark King neck, light body, weighs 9 lbs, has punch like Tyson and the manners of a sophisticated philosopher.
I'm still in the Honeymoon phase, which wanes after a while , so we'll wait and see how I feel in a few weeks.

If it had side LED's (carbon fiber) markers, then it would be 100% perfect. That's a total gold plated "problem".

This bass is simply stunning in every way ; looks, feel, and sound. It's PERFECT. It sounds like ANY bass with a mere right hand technique.

Considering that this was the same cost as a new higher end production bass in 2022, I think I lucked out. It had ALL the paperwork and looks like it was NEVER played.

That's a fine looking bass. You scored, for sure. I bet it sounds great. I also really like the classic Alembic 12" radius as it makes playing quick passages easier. I had a custom Fender-style neck made with the same 12" radius.

Thanks for the encouragement, family. I really like it and I know it's a rare, weird bird, but it fits me.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I know I paid more than what it was listed for on Reverb, but so what. I didn't even know it existed. If I paid a little more, so be it. I helped the world go round a little more. Most importantly, I LIKE IT !!! I KNOW I got  a good deal to ME. ( FACT : People that pay the least are the most depressed because they feel like they always left money on the table. Conversely, people who paid "sticker price" are happiest. They SEE the value. )

I've had this bass for a few days now and it's the first Alembic I've owned with a single pickup, aside from a P bass, of course. I was hesitant / skeptical  from the start.

I must say, this bass is absolutely PERFECT. I love the feel, weight, sound, and look. The look is last, because if it doesn't play, or sound good, what's the point ?

I've been experimenting and if I just change the EQ to a boost treble, and a cut bass, I can cop a jazz tone, and vice-versa. I just had a few shows where I played my Sire, and I never used the pickup blend knob. In fact, I can't name a single time I've EVER used the blend knob at a show to cop a different tone.

That makes THIS bass that much more effective to me. It's SIMPLE to use, and it's an ALEMBIC.

Like I said, I have never seen an Alembic with an ash body before, and after doing some Youtube surfing I saw that a lot (if not all ?) Excel's have ash bodies. I never knew !!!!!! I've only owned mohagony, but I think I prefer ash.

Am I grateful ??? YES. I am SO grateful. I have such a good life compared to other people, so add an Alembic like this with a dash of perspective, and I'm truly grateful.

I know this is a long response to a simple compliment from you guys, but I do NOT take this for granted.
