Interesting what a gig can do. Today i got facebook message from a company doing custom bass guitars in California, and to let them know if i'm interested. Bold move considering I was sporting an Alembic on the video i posted on facebook that they commented earlier on  :-)

Hope the gig went well, Jazzy.

Curious; what is the relationship of Brixton to Brighton? Just proximity? I have heard them mentioned together, as if related in some way.

Well they are 50 miles apart, ( round the corner in American terms), but Brixton is a suburb of London and Brighton is town on the South coast virtually a straight line south. I guess they are about 1.5 hrs ish apart by car. I don't know of any relationship historically between them but a member who lives in London may have an idea.

American folksongs don't always get the geography right.  ::)

"Brighton Camp", eventually became "The Girl I Left Behind Me". I was reminded of it recently; our (now-defunct) neo-oldtyme band wrote some original lyrics and remade the melody four centuries later into a song titled "The One I'm Leaving Behind". Somewhere in some very old lyrics though, I seem to remember mention of marching from Brixton to Brighton. Kinda' makes sense. It was a fife-n-drum march tune.

I had a last minute dep gig last night with a band covering UB40 and John Holt songs. Got a call on Thursday evening about 7:30pm as the band were at rehearsal and their dep had just let them down at the last minute. So had to finish my shopping, eat then head over to rehearsal crash through their set of about 20 songs with 7 or 8 sons i’d never played before. Tried learning them between Friday evening and Saturday morning then did the gig last night. As much as i love gigging, i don’t like enjoy it as much if i know i’m unprepared. Especially with well known tracks like reggae where the bassline pretty much defines the tune. So i had a few fumbling moments trying to find the note whilst also trying not to lose the groove. Turned out fine overall so they have asked me to be their first call dep.

Just a bump to my next gig which is on Thursday
I have a gig with Musical Youth at Hootananny in Brixton on 27th October.

I still haven't decided which bass to take. It was going to be my Series II because I'd planned to also pass buy the company that makes the Carbon Fibre cases but timing won't allow.

Just got home from this gig and winding down with a cuppa. I used my black Maple & purpleheart Europa (reggae) bass.
It went really well the sound quality especially the bass was exceptional and when I got off stage I had a number of conversations with punters including some who told me they were bass players raving about the gig, my playing and the sound of my bass. Good to hear and honestly that bass is such an incredible sounding instrument and played through F-1X/SF-2, power amp and Barefaced cabs is just  something else. I think giving the FOH my sound from the post pre-amp signal via the DI worked really well. It is something i have been doing for reggae gigs as my norm unless the sound guys explicitly request otherwise.

Sounds like must have been a good time, Jazzy. Knowing how our gear works sure helps the soundcrew.

Punter = Patron? I looked around at various definitions, none say this specifically, but I gather they must be audience members.
