Series Stereo/Mono switch and Need for Stereo to Mono Jack Cable?

My Series basses are 2008 builds and both have the stereo/mono switch by the 1/4" jack socket.  Possibly a stupid question, but does the switch (when mono is selected) negate the requirement for a stereo (TRS with resistors) to mono (TS) 1/4" jack lead?  I was just about to order the S to M lead - as per the instructions in Mica's post and then realised that I might not need one.  With mono selected on the bass, I can use all three (four if we count the kill switch) positions provided by the pickup selector knob.  Any advice gratefully welcomed and this may save me a few British Pounds!

That’s correct.  The purpose of the stereo/mono switch with the 1/4 jack is so you can use a standard mono cable and hear both pickups as mono output.  Plug in a mono cable and set the switch to mono and you will see how it works

Although i don't have that mode switch on my series bass, but i do on my bass with anniversary electronics. in mono mode both pickups are summed inside the bass so using a standard mono jack cable gets you both pickups. if you wanted to go stereo with a jack then switch the mode to stereo position and use a stereo jack.

Thanks very much - very rapid and knowledgeable responses - much appreciated.  I've used the bass this afternoon with a mono cable and the mono switch engaged and it works perfectly.  I'll try a stereo jack too with a Helix Stomp - I need to check if the latter has a stereo (TRS) input but this should give me access to stereo effects.  I've used designacable extensively in the past - a really good company and thanks for the tip Jazzyvee - I'm sure they'll supply the requisite stereo to stereo jack cable.  Thanks again for the helpful responses.
