I believe this Peghead is the standard Europa 4 Peghead...

Otherwise known as the Elf Cap peghead.

The Orion is the set neck version of the Europa.

Ahh, thanks, I knew there had to be a name for it. It's my second-favorite Alembic peghead (after the original crown), and arguably the best-looking inline peghead anywhere.

My other question: is the Essence 34" scale? Always?

By default yes, the Alembic website shows the default specs for each bass, goto The Products and Basses and you'll see one listed - at the bottom it goes through all the default specs...
