How often do you travel the I-81 or US 460 corridor? I am in the Roanoke/Salem area, and would be glad for a meet-up anywhere within a little ways. I can bring a couple of them along and something to plug up to.

Our band occasionally plays in/around Charlottesville, but nothing in the books anytime soon.

Fair warning though; it's a life-changing rabbit-hole to end all adventures.

Greg, You certainly have a way with words and I couldn’t agree more with your comment that, “it’s a life- changing rabbit-hole to end all adventures.”

P.S. The shop-night series bass I purchased that’s been awaiting an electronics upgrade appears to be close to being ready for shipping. Can’t wait to play it. Good thing I’m more often than not playing sitting down as Mica indicated it’s one of the heaviest basses she’s encountered.

Thank you for the offer. I pretty much never go to your area. I’m in Richmond which is about 3 hours away.

Well Slam, I don't get to Richmond much anymore either. Used to have a gig in a living history thing in Henrico Co. Long gone now. If you do happen to head West, Lynchburg, Staunton, or something by all means, ping me, I'm glad to share my Alembic experience.

If you're shopping for your first Alembic, do yourself a favor and do it privately here... don't feed the flipper sharks another 30%. If you're going to pay that price, go ahead and pay the fine people who host this cool place a couple thousand more to build exactly what you want. I came here in 2014 with a stripped out bass an ebay rip-off artist stuck me with. They helped me restore it to better-than-new over the phone, at discounted cost, and treated me like I bought it new. It took me another 14 months of gig money to save up the deposit for a new Custom fretless, and another 23 months and 6 days to get it. Worth every nickel spent, and every minute waited. Thinking darn seriously about a guitar now.

*Brian; cool to hear your Shopnight project is almost done. I still haven't asked about my Series I > II conversion on #80-1684 but I figure they were pretty close. It'll just happen. I actually do need to check with Mica sometime about the pickups... I originally thought that the glossy unbranded version it came with would be better, but lately I think the more modern matte finish black with gold embossed letters is appealing. She'll know what to do. Nothing to play for a while anyway.

I don't think you'll ever find an Alembic bass that lacks clarity and is unable to cut through the mix regardless of the specific bass (unless your playing a bass without a five pin providing power and the battery dies).

Thanks for that information. The distinctive Alembic clarity is important to me. It's good to know that it's a constant.

One thing I'd would strongly suggest is seeing if you can find some local shop or Alembicans close to you who will allow you to play their basses ... so you can get a better feel for the type of neck you want.

I'd love to find an Alembic similar to what I'm looking for in a local shop, but they're not common enough to make that easy. A somewhat distant musical acquaintance (friend of a friend) has an older Alembic that I actually got to hold for a few minutes once... I'm trying to figure out a way to approach him with this request without sounding like "hey, man, sell me your bass" (I really doubt it's for sale).

But I'm not one of those people who are real fussy about the type of neck. Sure, I have preferences, but I'm not like someone whose post I saw over at Talkbass who liked 1-5/8", but 1-11/16" would be a dealbreaker. The big thing I'm looking for right now is a shorter scale length.

I expect an Alembic would more than adequately repay any effort needed to adapt and familiarize myself with it.

I would love to get one here. I’m not finding any so far. Trying to be patient.
