R.I.P. Mike Nesmith
« on: December 10, 2021, 03:09:17 PM »
Mike Nesmith, the most accomplished musician in the Monkees, and later with his First National Band, has passed.   I suspect there are many here like myself who grew up with the Monkees and Mike’s iconic beanie.  And, for trivia buffs, his mom invented Liquid Paper (back in the days of typewriters).

May the Four Winds Blow You Safely Home.

Didn't he have something to do with the creation of MTV?

Floored when the news hit me today. We're all big fans! So many quotable moments from Elephant Parts, if you haven't seen his amazing comedy collection, please treat yourself. Here's a preview:

Yes, I loved The Monkees (the show, not the band - if you know what I mean.....), and I loved it because of Mike - but nothing like I loved his album Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash.

This is a bummer.

Sad news today!

I had a chance to spend a day with Michael at his studio in the Carmel Valley in 2003. At the time I was Art Director of ArtistPro Publishing and the Publisher, Editor, photographer Susana Millman, and I went down to do a photo shoot and interview him for a cover story in ArtistPro Magazine. Like many members here I used to watch the Monkees TV show. Meeting Nez the first thing I noticed was his eyes, the familiarity of looking at his eyes on TV had stuck with me over the years and somehow felt very welcoming. He was a gracious host, we had a nice day hearing him chat about a myriad of projects he had been involved in. One of the last projects I worked on for ArtistPro, before the investors decided to sell the company, was a songbook "The Best of Michael Nesmith". It ended up being published by Michael's company Pacific Arts Corp. I later designed an ad for Videoranch to go in one of the Monkee's tour books. He was a gentle man with strong ideas of how to achieve his creative vision and an important creative voice in the entertainment industry..

May be an image of one or more people, people playing musical instruments, people standing and text that says 'Hey, hey, we're the People And Monkeys say we People around'
