Alembic Series 1 5 Pin Suddenly not working
« on: December 03, 2021, 11:04:22 PM »
I have always used the 5 pin for shows and home use. For the last 2 or 3 rehearsals, I used the 1/4' jack (converted to mono by Alembic) and today, I wanted to go back to using the 5 pin, and now it does not work. This has never happened before. I have checked with 2 cables, both are transmitting noise when not plugged into the bass which confirms the DS5 and cables are working. When plugged into the bass, its completely silent, not even noise. I have also tried it with the batteries removed.

Batteries still work, but I hate it that my Alembic is not 100%

What could be wrong with my bass and is it something that I have to send back to Alembic to fix?

Thanks

Might be a good idea to send a close up photo of the electronics cavity where the jack and 5 pin socket is in case someone with electronics knowledge here can see something untoward.
Maybe one with the jack in and one without?

i sure hope you can get it fixed asap and without having to send it back to alembic.

I just got a reply from Mica and she suggested that for the time being, setting up my bass to the DS5 but plugging a lead into the 1/4' jack but not connect to an amp. That totally worked! You gotta love the Alembic family!

Ok, upon further testing, it turns out my 1/4' jack might be busted and needs replacement 😢

Ok, I am TOTALLY A BONEHEAD. After finishing work today, I was turning off all my gear when I found out that a power regulator box I rarely use was plugged in instead of my DS5... so for this whole time, I thought my DS5 was plugged in when in fact, it was not leading me to think that my Series was broken.

My DS5 is the old version with no "on" light. 😂

Thank goodness nothing was wrong with my Alembic. Lesson Learned

Picure, i was going to suggest the same thing mica said as i had an issue with interference from my series guitar and had a conversation with Ron who he suggested doing the same thing but after 11 years i can't recall what that was going to reveal.
However in my case i found the interference was caused by ethernet powerline broadband adaptors affecting the amplifiers I was using and as soon as I turned them off the noise stopped. With the newer TP-Link ones i don't have that issue.
i'm glad though that you are on the way to a solution.

Funny, I’ve done that twice in the last month or so!  :)
