Can’t believe I’m posting this
« on: November 05, 2021, 04:54:14 AM »
This is really hard for me but I’ve been entertaining the idea of selling my beloved ‘95 epic. I’m 71 years old and due to issues with my back I stopped kidding myself that I would someday be able to play professionally again. The extent of my playing is now confined to playing along with my favorite artists of my youth in my basement studio.

I’ve been looking at getting a replica of the fender pbass I had when I was 16 from the fender mod shop. This idea is based purely on sentiment since this was the first bass I ever owned. I remember paying $160 for it with a hard shell case at Manny’s Music on East 48th street in New York City. The idea of basically trading an Alembic for a fender is something that 10 or 15 years ago would make me laugh hysterically.

So I thought if I’m going to be serious about selling it I would start here for obvious reasons. It would come with a semi hard case and all the original tools. It’s in great shape having been babied all its life and the zebrawood has gotten more beautiful with age. Even the maple neck has developed a pleasingly darker hue.

So if there’s any interest out there I’d be happy to hear from anyone interested. I’ll post pics too.l

New York’s famed music row was on West 48th St., between 6th and 7th Avenues.   I found my Taylor 810 at Rudy’s on W. 48th after spending two days playing every Marin D-28 and D-35 on the street, including Manny’s, Sam Ash, and Terminal, 25+ years ago.

If it were me, I’d get the Fender first and spend some time with it before letting the Epic go, just to be sure and avoid seller’s remorse.

And you can always play sitting down ... it worked for Skunk Baxter.   I have a bad disc that gives me sciatica in my left leg when I stand too long.  I always play with a stool so I can sit if it acts up.  I even have a folding stool that doubles as a guitar stand.

I'm with Bill - any way you can get the Fender before selling the Alembic? I would be worried that the Fender wouldn't meet your expectations - you don't still have your original bass, do you? If not, then there's no guarantee that what the custom shop comes up with will match what you had in terms of neck, weight, sound, etc.

Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck!

Much thanx to both you guys. So far as anything matching that ‘65 pbass I get that nothing fender can do today could match it. That original bass is long gone. Unfortunately I would have to sell the epic in order to get the fender. Being on a fixed income has its constraints. And to Bill I know the pain that comes with sciatica. I’ve already had one surgery and I need another one. But there’s no way I’m going into a hospital with the COVID situation as it is now. Again, thanks for sharing your excellent thoughts. Much appreciated.

I might be interested in buying your bass if you still have it.
