Giving this one some thought. Concerns/issues?

Still relatively new to the world of Alembic. Really dig this one. Anything jump out to the experts here (good or bad?)?

IMHO they are asking way too much for this bass regardless of condition. That price should get you a mid 80s Series I or a 90s-2000s Signature Deluxe.  I've seen very nice brown basses also going in that price range. To give you a better idea as to pricing, I have a 6-string Europa that I keep going back and forth about selling that I would price in the $3000-$3,500 range.  Be patient and something a lot better at a more reasonable price will pop up.  Check out Craigslist (but be careful). Example...

Five string Rogue $3995: https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/msg/d/country-club-hills-alembic-rogue-w-case/7380794965.html OR this

Four String Signature Deluxe @ $5995 (overpriced IMHO but a lot better than $6,999) https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/msg/d/el-verano-2007-alembic-stanley-clarke/7388115486.htmlv

Thanks much for the info. Been looking for an Alembic 6 string. Let me know if you decide to sell.

Agree with Brian about the price for the five-string being too high. Even though it has been "reduced in price" the original price was even more unrealistic. There are lots of Alembics that have been listed for a long time, sometimes a year or more, and never sell. If you I see a multi-thousand dollar price drop to me it isn't a selling point just an indication that the seller has no clue about the actual market value or is looking for a sucker. If Brian decides he wants to sell his six-string he is offering it a nice and very fair price. That would be my also be my suggestion for a target price if you have to continue to look.

When you do find the bass you want please let us know what you think!

at first glance, i thought this was the cocobolo elan i sold a year or two ago to finance my MK deluxe.  Those maple core elans (which i'm pretty sure this one is) have tone for days.  Very sharp and bright, maybe too much if you're playing in a polka or dinner band.  weight is just about in line as well at ~12.5 lbs.  but price-wise, this bass is way outta line (IMHO, YMMV, etc. and so forth).  Kinda looks like the market has cooled a little. Based on my last sale, i'd say it's over market by about $3500.  good luck with that.

usually with me, once the deal is done i never look back, but that's one of the few basses i've sold that i wish i had back. my shoulders and back aren't in agreement, unfortunately.  that bass was gonna make a cripple outta me.  what a killer!  :-(

Agreed all around... that's a *beautiful* bass and it's very "optimistically" priced. I do it too sometimes, but mostly so the basses I love *don't* sell!

One other that’s caught my eye. Researched the history of that model quite a bit. How (if at all) out of line is the price in your opinions?

It looks like a very reasonable European price for the features this bass has. Might be on the high end but still reasonable for the US. I wouldn't let the price stop me if I wanted this bass.

a very nice bass indeed.  it's been up for sale for some time now, so price-wise it may be somewhat high, but then again this is a pretty special instrument, so it may be warranted in this case (imho, ymmv, etc and so forth).  if it floats your boat, then go for it, i say.  just remember that everything's negotiable.  or it should be.  others may not agree.  so sue me.

i considered this bass at one time but i'm a 5-string guy mostly these days, so it would have to be a *really* special 4-string to get me to bite, as in: anybody got a small body long scale unlined fretless fingerboard series I or II with LEDs in the neck they wanna part with?

it's overseas, which may present issues, but the seller seems pretty reputable, so i wouldn't let that stop me.

If you are looking for a top of the line bass and don't mind paying euro prices, this looks like a keeper. They don't get any better than this. Quite a jump in what this bass will do versus your first selection but then again quite a big jump in price. The one thing I'd be careful about is whether the neck is going to fit your needs or more accurately feel comfortable in your hands. I have several Alembic basses and the necks are quite different. Spending that much on a bass I'd want to make sure there's a 100% return policy or would make sure I had the means to travel there to play it myself.
