I had a light bulb moment reading it, reflecting on a comment made in another thread.

Music is art, art is self-expression.
We put labels on different forms of art.  To ‘identify’ them in discussion.
Self-expression comes from the individual.
Every individual has a unique environment that their art comes from.
I do not always relate to the environment that an artists is reflecting… which does NOT invalidate The Art.

I have listened to genre’s that ‘aren’t my thing’ yet am able to hear the sincere passion emanating from it.
That (as you mentioned before Rob) is where the love resides.

 :D

Paul (speaking of art… we watched the Bob Ross documentary on Netflix last night - beautiful and tragic)

Read it yesterday.  An interesting take.  It did make me want to go back and listen to some of the songs he mentioned again, as it's been a while.

It was an interesting article. To tell you the truth, I never really associated Jimi with jazz but at that age I don't think I had a sufficient understanding of music to hear some of the things that I now hear when I listen.  Interesting to see the likes of Gary Burton (an all-time favorite) mentioned in the article.  I never thought of Gary and Jimi having an influence on each other. Miles Davis and John McLaughlin I can hear, Burton not so much.
