That's not a bad deal on a new bass with that markdown. I reckon CME must be trying to move out old stock.  8)

strangely enough, that's the only alembic their web site shows in stock.  they must have finally unloaded that series I with the EMGs and the original electronics ripped out.  wonder how well that went.

Hmmm... CME is still listed as a dealer. [shrug] I dunno.

*I believe on another thread, Mica reported that #75-173 came home and was fitted with a set of Anniversary electronics. That was a beautiful bass. I laid awake many nights thinking about rescuing it while it was still in N.Y. No regrets though. The wise man said, there will always be another, and for me it was #80-1684.

That bass ticks many boxes for me except location due to import taxes, duty and shipping. Sure is a great looking bass and it has been on sale for a heck of a long time.

Beautiful bass! Amazing that this bass has been sitting around that long without a buyer. Did someone put it in storage and forget about it?

If I didnt already have a 6-string Europa I keep going back and forth about selling, I’d certainly be looking closely at this one. The fingers seem to be long enough for a 5er but playing that 6er is a stretch.

I have been watching this bass as well. How will the Maple fretboard sound in contrast to an Ebony frettboard?

At least In my experience, it’s going to be the maple/walnut neck and walnut core that are going to give this instrument it’s tone. My only experience with maple fretboards is that they tend to look grungy very quickly if not cleaned up quite frequently.

Thanks Hammer,

I just noticed it also has a walnut core. I wonder how that affects the tone compared to mahogany?

Mark VL,  one characteristic of walnut is it provides quick clear attack.

The link below is a good reference for wood types and tone.

Thanks rv_bass. I have seen that page before and even clicked on the individual wood samples, but didn't realize where I needed to click to read about the sound characteristics of each wood until you posted that link. That was very helpful!

I was at CME earlier today and it’s certainly beautiful. I’ve played it several times and there’s nothing wrong with it at all.
