I spoke with my brother and sister-in-law in North Carolina yesterday and they said the same thing. Beautiful sunsets, though, due to the smoke in the atmosphere. Here in Oakland the air has been mainly smoke free to date but we did get a few blasts of smoke smell last night. It is only a matter of time before the atmospheric wind direction is no longer in our favor.

This is what smoke in the atmosphere does to sunset photos here.  This one taken by a friend in Maryland.

Yes crazy.  Wisconsin late last week was hazy and smoky.
Real crazy.
Wonder if that is why the mosquitoes weren’t so bad in the Northwoods over the weekend?

Nothing that I've noticed in northern IL yet.

There are some fires in Canada that the smoke is  coming into Wisconsin, the jet stream indicates the Bootleg smoke is also a part of it.

Really messes with seeing the Milky Way at night.

We were smelling the smoke from the fires here last week and even had a yellow bad air day due to it. It made it hard to get outside and do anything. I do have to admit that it made for some beautiful sunsets and sunrises.

Up here in Western Washington state…..we’ve had no smoke or smell of smoke.  First time in years that has happened.  I’m getting red sunsets so the smoke is staying offshore.
Where are we going...and why am I in this Handbasket?

So far we've been really lucky here in Mothership land. No significant fires in Sonoma County, and prevailing westerly winds are keeping our air clear, unlike most of the rest of the country. Only 3 more months (or so) of fire season to go!

No smoke in the Bay Area and I haven’t had to drag out the generator.  No PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoff) this year, so far.

Bootleg Smoke seems like a great name for an Outlaw-ish sounding Dead band.

Yeah, I think I'm still traumatized from the last couple of years.

Really bad smoke in Minnesota yesterday. I hear the northern part of the state was worse but it was so bad in the Minneapolis area that my dogs were wheezing on their evening walk that I had to cut short. Sitting in my office all day I thought I wasn't seeing sun because of clouds but I was incorrect. The sun was out but obscured by the smoke all day.
