A “Different” Alembic Guitar on Reverb
« on: July 23, 2021, 08:33:02 AM »
Not my cup of tea.   IMHO, there is a reason Alembic has only done “5 or 6 [with this finish] in the entire company history!”

I thought exactly the same thing this morning when my Reverb feed lit that one up. Yeah, it might grow on me. I'd probably rather see the wood underneath that finish. But y'know... that'll be exactly what somebody wants. It will almost have to be.

Reminds me of that white Becvar that was for sale a while back.

Yeah - not a fan of that finish, myself.

I kinda like it - looks almost iridescent - insectoid, like an elegant beetle - I wonder if the colors change from different angles?

I don't know if it is the same finish, but it reminds me of Blue Steel Tribute, whose appearance changes from dark purple to lavender to  steel blue to ice blue, with multiple color wheel stops along the way, depending upon how she is held. I had the privilege of playing her one afternoon. Iridescent, indeed.

I kinda like it, but then again, I kinda don't. Maybe that's why it's called flip-flop?

I wonder what the underlying build is... says 8lbs - 2oz. seems light. I guess those omegas don't weigh much! ;D

Mica, do you recall the wood layup on this one? I don't see the SN, but as unusual as it is there can't be many more from 2001.

Surprisingly for me, I do like it but wouldn't be interested in buying it. I notice the dragon headstock is not chamfered like on others i have seen. Though as the guitar is all one colour then there is probably no need for that extra touch. I haven't had a guitar with a Khaler but visually that one doesn't do it for me. I wonder what woods are underneath that paint.
But lovely looking guitar still. As usual I hope the seller finds a good buyer.

It isn't the color that gets to me so much as the body not having any type of contours which makes me think "slab of wood". If the grain showed I might feel different but in the solid color it is just too boxy for me.

I'm pretty sure this one is rather plain wood.
