Well It’s not actually an Alembic, however...
« on: July 22, 2021, 08:00:39 AM »
I’m negotiating with someone on a Moonstone M80 bass that is purported has Full Alembic electronics. It’s clear the PUs are Alembic as are the bridge and tail piece. However, it hard to tell what types of Alembic electronics it has. The seller describes the controls as Master volume, pan, tone? (I assume this refers to a filter) and a single toggle (I’m assuming this is a Q switch. Not sure if it’s a two or three position). Am I correct that this is most similar to the setup of a Elan?

I emailed Mica but not sure if she’s going to have the time given her busy schedule to respond as quickly as I’d need. So...I was hoping someone whose been hanging around here for a good while might remember something about Alembic selling electronic packages to the late Steve Helgeson and Moonstone some time ago.

Best thing is to ask the seller to take a picture of the inside of the electronics cavity, post it here and members here will let you know if the electronics are original.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Is it the one posted last year in the Alembic Basses group on Facebook, 5 string semi-acoustic in brownburst, halfmoon tailpiece and a proper Alembic bridge? Looked like it had Essence electronics with a Q switch.

Mica quickly got back to me. Looks like its not "Elan-like" but more basic than that. I'm currently waiting for a photo for the electronics cavity to send to Mica to take a look at as Alembic apparently sold a lot of parts to Moonstone over the years.
