Never seen a neck crack like this before.
« on: July 21, 2021, 11:45:21 PM »
I found this Epic bass on sale on facebook yesterday and in the writing the seller indicates a small professional repair was made to the neck.
It is not that clear on the original picture so my curiousity got to me an i fiddled with the contrast settings etc  and managed to see a crack near the neck/body join. It's not something I have seen before so it does make me wonder how a crack would occur in that place. Maybe it's one of Pete Townsend's old basses :-).
Other than that it's a great looking epic fretless.
Any thoughts?

From these pictures it really looks more of a scratch than a crack  - there's no tearing of the grain, and it goes across laminates, that doesn't make any sense as a crack. But maybe other images or seeing in person would educate me.

If that is the crack the most likely way I could see it happening in that location was if something very heavy was dropped on the bass while it was lying flat with nothing to support the body to neck area. Or maybe someone got drunk and used it to play mailbox baseball.
