That's certainly interesting!  Wonder what the scale length, neck width, and string gauges are.

Very cool. I am going to be in Portland next month, if the bass is at the Portland location and time permits I will try to check it out.

Wow - very understated. That string spacing looks tight! Cool piece of history.

I ran into this instrument many years ago at a guitar show in Dallas, TX.    I played it for about an hour or so.    I really was digging it, but it was not for me.   Too many strings.   The serial number of this one by the way is 72-17.   I remember because it was the next one made after the bass I have 72-16.

They guy trying to sell it at the guitar show said that not only was it made for Jack (he actually said Jefferson Airplane), but that some part of the wood of that instrument came from Alcatraz.    Who knows.   Maybe.

At the time it was for sale for a LOT less.   I remember it being under 2K.

I just read that build sheet that was posted in the listing.   It confirms it is 72-17.   That sheet also lists it having PF5 electronics.   That is not quite right.   The electronics are passive with a hum canceller for each pickup inside the body.   Those trim pots are to adjust the gain on the individual P-51 preamps, but there are no Q switches.
