Series I / F2-B Combo on ebay
« on: May 03, 2021, 10:25:58 AM »
well it looked like a decent deal until i saw the mods:  Yikes!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/284281598967?hash=item423080f3f7:g:YkgAAOSwm2RgkA7n

looks like they kept the original parts so maybe you could get it back to good.  Not really sure if the seller knows what he's talking about... DS-5?  SF-2?  parts is parts :-)

if the PF card is removed then I would assume the bass is being used as a passive instrument unless there are another brand of electronics in the large cavity.
Apart from that it looks in great condition. If that was about 1/2 the price and located in the UK I would take a look at it.

Price: US $6,888.00

... The original electronics are still installed and are only bypassed. Everything else is entirely original. ... The original pickups are not included.

alrighty then.  good luck with that!

why jack up a perfectly good alembic to make it sound like something else?  i don't get it.

Looks like a Boogieman version of the DS5 and did Alembic ever make an F2-B that looked like that.  They indicated it was modified but to what extent. Based on the Specs I'm also wanting to know where the missing strings went to (it's listed as a 6-string).

Just looked at this listing again as i am strangely attracted to this train wreck:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1312&_nkw=alembic&_sacat=3858

i was pretty sure the original listing included the F2-B, that verbiage seems to be missing from the re-list.  makes me say hmmmm...

if it was the whole schmeer for about $1500 less than it is now, i'd be thinking winter 2021 project while we're locked down for the next pandemic.  i'm pretty handy with a soldering iron and a schematic, been inside of plenty of amps and an F2-B or 2 back in the day so that doesn't scare me.  if they had no qualms about hacking up the bass electronics, i'd guess the F2-B mods probably go further than the garish knob job.

hard to say if it's a long scale. i'm thinking probably more likely 32" but it's hard to tell from the picture and the seller seems to think it's a 6-string, so that's no help.  of course, no serial number.

oh well - back to the grindstone.  some land mines are best left un-stepped-upon...

For me it would depend on how much of the original electronics are left inside the bass, which I don't see any info on.
