I remember seeing George Benson's bass player live using a Gibson bass (grabber?) back in the 70's a time or two. It sat back a ways in the mix, which featured his guitar more.

Never, ever say never with Gibson though.  :)

Especially considering their long-standing habit of adapting & hiding production mistakes instead of trashing them ("Gibson never did that!"  "This time they did.")

My first bass was a '63 EB-2D that I modified with Bartolinis and a Badass bridge. I miss it.

Barts & Badass on an EB-2D?  Yeah, I'm thinking that would work on a level with an EB-3 (or -0) w/BiSonics; sweet!

Edwin's picture gave me the worst case of nostalgia. My first bass (guitar) was this 1969 Kalamazoo KB-1. How I got from that thing to here is quite a tale, but I miss it too.

Haha!
Your loaner bass really reminds me of a late ‘80s Larrivee bass I tried to purchase a few years back (in a moment of temporary insanity). Well, I have 3 beautiful Larrivee acoustic guitars so that, I suppose, had something to do with my interest.

The bass would not fire up, it was dead, and the greasy pawn shop seller would not come down in cash so I walked.
Funny how those hockey stick heads always have corner bash rash. I wandered back in 6 months later, it was still there. The salesman was embarrassed it had not sold but I wasn’t interested anymore.
