Little washer for Tuning pegs? Where to get
« on: March 13, 2021, 04:51:51 PM »
Anyone know where I could get some of those little washers that are on the shaft of the tuning pegs. They are Alembic tuners on my Lemby, I do not know who made them, Gotoh or kalhler or schaller etc.  Where can I get some, my String tuner has chewed through a couple and I wanted to bring it up to normal standard.  I'm in San Jose, CA FWIW.  Thanks, Andy

I did find some on reverb that are available for purchase.

I recently moved and haven't unpacked my guitar bench  - if they stay back ordered shoot me your mailing address and I can stick a few in an envelope in a month or two (I bought a few packs last year when I needed some).

Hi all, reviving an old question. I have the same question - which washers to get and where (I assume Allparts still has so I’ll check it out) but for my own comfort level, are these easy to replace?  I have a vision of removing a screw only to have my tuner fall apart into 60 tiny pieces before my very eyes, and having to switch to 3-string bass. Alembic tuners. 1992.  Not sure who manufactured them. Thanks in advance!

I ordered the same parts recently (probably last month). They’re the ones from Allparts, but I ordered via Amazon. P/N TK-7717-025. Installation is very simple, just remove the screw holding the handle in place, replace the washer on the shaft, and put it back together. Just be careful not to over-tighten. Typically there are a couple of metal washers on the shaft too, so just check a working tuner to see how they are stacked.

Thanks. I think I need metal washers as well. Any thought on where to get those? See photo.

Seems like I can get those from Allparts as well. Black, though.

Another question, since it’s hard to source all the necessary washers - is the Gotoh GB707 the appropriate replacement on a Stanley signature standard?  It’s got gold Alembic branded Gotohs on it.

As I understand it, the GB707 is the latest version of the tuning machine, and it works as a replacement (it fits). However, it looks like the tuners don’t have tapered (i.e. fluted) shafts anymore. So, you may not want to replace a single tuner. You can check the Gotoh site for reference:

https://g-gotoh.com/product/gb707/?lang=en
https://g-gotoh.com/images/pdf/GB707-Dim.pdf

Before replacing the tuning machine(s), I’d first try stacking the TK-7717-025 (plastic) and TK-7717-003 (metal) washers to see if that works, since they are available. You might even try taking your existing washers to your local hardware store to see if you can match them.

Thanks I’ve got plastic and metal washers on order now and I’ll try that first. New tuners are a backup plan. Wouldn’t be the end of the world to replace them - they’re all looking a bit sad.

My basses have old Schaller M4 tuners and at some point a few years ago the M4 keys got thinner.  I suppose "lighter weight" is not a bad thing if that was the goal.  But when replacing a tuner or two I'm now in the habit of using an older key on a newer machine to keep the set matching.  All that to say - maybe you could use the tiny washers from the older machine on your newer one?
