I'm looking at you Greg.  :o

Really intrigued with your new avatar picture.

Would love to see more of that guitar (?) or is it an acoustic bass guitar.

I'm gonna guess it's a Gibson L-4-N.

Close... good guess. It is an L-1, carved-top, 1914 model. They call this "the Pumpkin Top". While in my custody for the past twenty years, the guitar actually belongs to my oldest friend in the world, who lives in Crazy-Town Sudden California. The Gibson was her Grandmother's, originally. Her Dad played it too. She used to play it back when we were young... preteens. I did some minor repair to it back in the late-90's, and next time she came in to visit, after playing a tune on it, she handed it back and asked me to keep it. So, like the little quote says... I Play It For Her.

I recently had it out for an annual checkup and restringing. Took a few pictures. Here ya' go.

It's a sweet little guitar. I don't play it out much, but it does get played plenty here at home. I usually have it displayed in the living room, but this time of year it's easier to control the humidity in the case and locker. (the OHSC survives with it, believe it or not)

L-1 carved-tops can be found for pretty reasonable... (~$1200 if you are patient) in the vintage guitar world, they aren't exactly a sought-after item. The post-1926 L-1 flat-top is much more collectible.

Paul, I just change the Club Avatar every now and then... it's whimsical but I'm thinking February will be Dave's old Series I. (birthday)

I’m guessing Los Angeles?

Suburban L.A. Bill, - close enuff.  ;)  I may get on an airplane one more time in this life, long enough to come see Her, the new Alembic Shop, and get one more look at the sun sink into the Pacific Ocean when I don't have to hurry to another place. The Bucket List is pretty short and sweet.

So what's everybody else's Avatar? I know Bill's, and a few more. I seldom ever change mine on TalkBass; it's been a picture of Barbara Eden as her beloved character and my Fairy Godmother for years - Jeannie. I keep it instrumental here.

How about Handles? We haven't done them in a while for the newer folks. Edward is an old family name given to eldest child. Huncote is my family's ancestral home in the central U.K. We left there in 1634 on a ship called "Assurance". As far as I know, I am the last living Edward. Huncote, when pronounced as an Englishman would say the word, phonetically is my name- Honeycutt. Visiting there is a little further down the Bucket List, but I am leaving it on there. If for no reason other than an Alembic mini-meet-up with JazzyVee.

My avatar?  Currently a scan of the patch that came with my ordination papers as a priest in the Church Of The Latter-Day Dude ( https://dudeism.com/).

My handle was applied by a friend in college, late '74 or early '75.  There are people from those days who never knew me by any other name, but currently it is just used as an internet handle.

I change my Avatar now and then. Right now it is a photo of the Westerlund 2 star cluster taken by the Hubble telescope.

Westerlund 2

This cluster of young stars — one to two million years old — is located about 20,000 light-years from Earth.

The central region, containing the Westerlund 2 star cluster, blends visible-light data and near-infrared exposures. The surrounding region is composed of visible-light observations.

My handle is my initials and I play bass (primarily)

My avatar is Lucy and Darla, dressed as Thelma and Louise.
They were part of our original pack of 3 dogs.  Both dearly missed for vastly different reasons.  Lucy was a lab and had the intelligence, poise, and ability to exceed expectations (like most labs)... Darla was a Blue Heeler, and she excelled at being the lowest rung on the ladder, she seemed to enjoy being kept inline and controlled.  As a heeler her instinct was  to protect her pack - if push would come to shove her tail tucks and she would scurry back to us.

Pauldo?  My name is Paul - pauldo is a variation of Where is Waldo? that was given to me by friends based on some alleged shenanigans that may (or may not) have occurred in the far Northwoods region of Wisconsin...  that is all I am going to say!

Avatar: Alembic #10

Handle: “lbpesq” is for “little billy panzer” and “esquire”.   When I first moved to California at age 18, the only person I knew was my brother’s college friend who was about six years older.  He told his friends that “little billy” was visiting.  I showed up a full head taller than him, so “little billy”, shortened to “LBP” stuck with that particular group, who became my regular Bay Area Dead show buddies.   Esquire is because I’m a lawyer.

Signature:   When I first started hanging out around here, there was another Bill who posted.  Also, as the veterans will remember, we had a beloved, now passed on, member who called himself “Paul, the bad one”, or “Paul, tbo”.  I took a hint from that and became “Bill, the guitar one”, or just plain “Bill, tgo”.

Bill, tgo

No avatar. The hammer handle, however, has nothing to do with a guitarist’s “hammer on” but was bestowed on me many years ago by cyclist and cross country ski friends. You see, while I have always had excellent endurance I could never sprint well on a bike, Nordic skiing, or running. My grandmother can sprint faster than me and she passed away years ago. Im so bad at sprinting that I typically end up in 6th place in a five person sprint.

So... disliking athletes who sit in only to sprint at the end of a race, I developed the strategy of going as hard as possible (or putting the hammer down) a minimum of 10km from a finish with the idea that at least I’d make those competitors who were sprinters earn the right to sprint by me at the finish line. It wasn’t long before I was referred to as “Hammer” rather than my given name.

I can't sprint on rides very well either...I have no avatar because I'm a computer dummy, but if I knew how it'd probably be my cat Emily.

The handle was a friend's description of my bass tone...he'd worked for a bit at a meat packers where they had a machine for turning cows into ground beef, real industrial size, a cow chipper and said I sounded like I was trying to chip people with my bass...Tony
