Extended Alembic Family Christmas Jam
« on: January 01, 2021, 09:04:25 PM »
The Grinnell and Wilson family are a part of our extended family here at Alembic. Justin Grinnell and Laurel Wilson are Ron and Susan’s godchildren and both are former Alembic employees. Since they couldn’t get their families together for their annual jam they did a virtual jam. Yeah it’s after Christmas by today’s a holiday and it’s still just a great and happy thing to see. Hope you enjoy!!

~ Happy Holidays ~
In lieu of the traditional family jam at the Wilson's - our 1st virtual musical collaboration with the Wilson family presenting "Linus and Lucy" (by V. Guaraldi/arr. Justin Grinnell)

Personnel:
Brady Grinnell (viola)
Brook Wilson (cello)
Owen & Melonie Grinnell, Cedar Wilson (keys)
Justin Grinnell (e. bass)
Laurel Grinnell-Wilson (percussion)
Bridger Wilson (misc. sounds)

Most excellent!   Especially the little go-go dancer!   My band used to play a speed metal version of this.  We called it “Twisted Peanuts”.

That was awesome - what a great arrangement. Nice fretless too! (bass, though I guess the cello and violin count?)

Brilliant!

I ass-u-me they did parts separately and then used a software to 'stitch' it together?  We do family Zoom meetings and there is lag and lock up galore!

Do you know what software they used?

Hi pauldo,

I'm the fretless bassist, Justin, in the video above. Thank you for the kind word!

You are correct. The parts were tracked/video-recorded separately.

I used three programs to create the video.

1) Finale (music notation software) to create the arrangement and everybody's notated parts.

2) VSDC Free Video Editor (video-editing software that is free, but I paid for an upgraded version) to stitch all the videos together. Also used to take out and put in audio.

3) Audacity (free audio-editing software) to bring all the audio together then edit/mix it.

Honestly, I didn't really know anything about using audio- or video-editing software before the pandemic. It's all very new to me, but I'm having fun figuring it out.

Welcome to the camp Justin!
Thanks for the software identification.
We always appreciate videos and pictures here - browse around in the different Topics areas and you’ll find this is a really nice place to be.

Thanks Mica, Justin and family for sharing this. I played it for my wife and she teared up, in a good way. :)
