I remember seeing my first Alembic back in the early 70's. It was at a small local guitar shop and I think it was a guitar and not a bass. it cost the staggering sum of around $1,200. I did buy one of those Alembic kits to replace the magnet in your humbucker at the time.

Around 81 i think it was, i saw the Clarke/Duke project here in the UK  and remember afterwards two alembics in the window of a music shop near the venue, short and long scale for £3,000 each.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

$500 For my first good bass in 1975 - a brand new '74 fender precision with OHSC and hang tags.
$4000 for a 5-string ziricote top series II with OHSC from bass northwest in 2002.

Now i'm all misty 😥

I wonder where that guitar is now.

The Pan Guitars ad is funny. "...they may look like you-know-whats, but they sound even better."

I did know where that guitar was for a while.

It is serial number 73-45.    It was the guitar pictured in the Alembic/L.D Heater brochure from back then.    The owner of that guitar used to hang out here and post once in a while a long time ago.    I know the guitar was sent back to Alembic for some electronic repairs.   I did see it for sale after that.    The last I heard, the guitar was still with it's owner.

I own the bass pictured from the same L.D. Heater brochure.   It is 73-47.    I will have to post another pic of it as it has changed a bit from the last time I posted a picture of it in the showcase section.     It is now fitted with PF6 Series II electronics and black pickups.
