A guy named Leo Burrell did this with acoustic guitars and basses.   I played one once that turned up on craigslist.   Pretty weird, but it worked, though I wasn’t impressed with the sound and, as I recall, I didn’t really notice any advantage.  I didn’t buy it.   But it sure is one of the more original designs.

OK, that's just too freaky.  I'd spend the whole time I was playing it wondering who slipped me what..........

There was this time shortly after high school, we took some shrooms and were jamming.... my bass's neck first turned into a B- grade piece of plywood and then started twisting behind me.   This was my pre-Alembic days so I wasn't concerned.

Nope - not concerned at all.  :o :D   8)
In fact if memory serves we had a really good time that evening (except for the spider).   ???

That 'twist' fingerboard/neck design floated around several manufacturers to be ghost builders for these things, and ultimately, all of them passed on the contract (it was going to be marketed by someone else in the 90's) as it was nearly impossible to hit the QC targets on a production run, then the idea of any kind of warranty service or fret jobs was just more pain.

Although . . . . . the idea of walking into Guitar Center and taking it to the Repair Desk, complaining about neck buzz, and then opening the case . . . . . . would have been a lot of fun.
