Tailpiece screws
« on: December 01, 2020, 06:06:23 PM »
Would anyone happen to know the correct screw type and size for an Alembic tailpiece?  I am replacing old brass screws.  Thanks!

Well, I’m starting to freak out a little bit.  I just noticed that I have several instruments with these older brass screws and I know they can weaken over time.  I would welcome any insight on the proper replacement screws.  Thanks!

I would just take one to a good hardware store and try matching it up Rob... we have True-Value stores down here in Virginia, with an unbelievable fastener section. The ol' fella' that stocks that stuff just hates asking if he can "help me find something"... knows I will probably want something weird!  ;D

A few years ago I removed the tailpiece from my 78 Series bass to clean it and realized that the middle brass screw was broken in half. I contacted Alembic and Mary sent me stainless steel replacement screws. Hardware store should be fine though. I tried that route first but they didn't have brass and it wasn't until I contacted Alembic looking for brass screws that I learned they didn't recommend using them anymore.

I have a pile of new screws to send to you, but I'm also researching for a suitable brass replacement.

Thanks for the added info, Stephen.

And thanks Mica for the update as well!  I got a little nervous last night when I realized I have several instruments to attend to.  I appreciate your background work!
