I just picked up a made in USA 1981 Peavey T40 bass from Guitar center. They are still selling for not too much money, but they all sell within hours of being posted on GC's site. I bought it for recording as they have a ton of various tones due to the unique electronics setup. I have also read you can drop in a Darkstar pickup into the body. Surprisingly good sounding used bass, with single or double coil positions on the unique tone knobs and a phase switch. You can get a pretty good Rickenbacker tone out of one, too! However, they weigh a ton as they are built like a tank. First bass with the body done with a CNC machine, I hear. Hartley Peavey certainly knew how to mass produce good stuff, though most of it was not to my liking.
Last week I bought a cool Sitar made in India from a master builder who passed away. More stuff for recording! It's hard to hold though, as I have a bad hip, and it needs new strings.
