Missing Factory to Customer
« on: September 20, 2020, 08:04:25 AM »
One of the things I used to love about this site was following the builds that were taking place in the Factory to Customer area. The chance to see The awesome work the people at Alembic were doing  gave me ideas for my Signature Deluxe and it was fantastic to see someone's dreams for a custom instrument becoming a reality. Posts in this area, however, have all but disappeared. Did I miss something and Mica found out this was taking up too much or her time, did those having builds done start deciding they wanted them done in private or was it something else. I'd love to start seeing these occur again.

Brian,
I concur with your sentiment of how enjoyable it is to see the transformation from raw stock to a finished instrument.
If memory serves me... I thought there was a concern for privacy with the FTC builds.

Paul (who can't even remember what he had for breakfast)

ok, that's a lie cause I am so old I have a 'routine' breakfast regime that is followed on work days.   So yes I did have a bowl of Mom's Best Blueberry Wheat-fuls with milk (some days I mix a little yogurt into it also...)  But yeah, for the most part the memory is sketchy hence having rote routines to keep me balanced or at least remotely sane.   :o

I was just reading that PRS will only give custom build updates through a dealer, never to the customer because that violates privacy rules.

Well I assure you guys; when I get a custom Alembic build going the FTC will be authorized  8)

The only thing that stays the same is change.

Ah yes, the famous luthier/customer privilege!  Right up there with attorney/client privilege; doctor/patient privilege; and, of course, marital privilege!  Oh, wait a minute, the client, patient, and spouse are free to tell anyone anything they want!

If the customer agrees to it, there would be nothing legally restraining a shop from posting build pics and reports.  OTOH, between Alembic’s recent move, covid, fires & smoke, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the factory-to-customer section takes a back seat for a while.   After all, few of us are on our “A” game these days.

Bill, tgo

Most people have been asking to have updates emailed rather than shared here, simple as that. I miss them too.

Fair enough. Owners have the right to keep their builds private, but...

1) Harken back to kindergarten and what your teacher was always telling you...”It’s nice to share with others.”
2) Think of the joy your posting on the progress of your new bass or guitar will bring to those of us who don’t get out much any more because our state, city, town is essentially still in quarantine, and
3) Consider your willingness to let Mica post on the progress of your new instrument a form of “Thank you” to the good folks at Alembic. Why you might ask...because many of us have had new instruments built by Alembic as a result of factory to customer postings (re)activating our gear acquisition syndromes (G.A.S.)
