Side LED not lighting Series II
« on: September 14, 2020, 12:01:15 PM »
Anyone see this issue before.

Side LEDs not coming on when switch engaged.  Already did the lube dance of flicking the switch a couple of dozen times.  Opened the backplate and the switch appears in tact and connected.

Obviously, powering via the 5pin from the DS5R.

I don't have a volt meter to test the cable.

Any suggestions.

I DO NOT know.

Have they worked for you before?

Throwing this out there... I thought some basses use a separate 9 volt battery as a stand alone power source for LED's????

Never fear, in short order those who are wise will guide you.

My Further uses four 9v batteries for the side LEDs.  On my '77 Series I 12 String, the side LEDs only work when employing the 5-pin cable.  They do not operate when running on battery power.

I had an Excel with LEDs.  The switch developed a short and had to be replaced.

Next step is checking with a voltmeter since you've confirmed all the visuals if they were working recently.
If you haven't operated the LEDs in a long while, like maybe over a year, with a 2012 model, the switch may have to be exercised a 100 times or even replaced.

Use a wire (paperclip) to jump across the switch. If the LEDs come on, it's the switch. If not, the problem is elsewhere.

Definitely working less than a year ago.  If I borrow a volt meter, what am I looking for, how do I test?  Am I testing the cable and/or the switch.

thanks for helping the noob

OK.  I opened up the back plate again and toggle the switch while plugged in via the 5 pin.  started getting some flickering so kept going.  moved the wire a little and got improvement.  seated the wire a bit more securely and closed the back.  Let's see how this holds up.
