I just got a hold of this amazing bass, and would be interested in knowing more about the history of this bass.

Thank you, I have been lurking for a while, seems like there are lots of great info and lots of nice people here.
And yes, I am a Celtics fan, Mchale was always my favourite player.

And yes, McHale was great, I saw many of their games in the 80s. :)

Here's what I know from the file on your bass:

model name: Elan
model number: HLB5
top: Quilted Maple
body: Maple
neck: 7-piece Maple and Purpleheart
scale: 34" long
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
pickups: Alembic AXY
controls: volume, pan, filter, Q-switch, mono output
originally made for: Guitar Workshop, Oslo
birthday: not recorded, but likely around February 1990

In the early 1990s we made a lot of basses in 2 super bright colors, Green Glow and Flash Pink. Yours is the pink version. These were popular in southern California and... Norway!
