Epic Mod
« on: August 22, 2020, 08:05:26 AM »
After owning an Epic for ~15 years I finally decided to join the club. I haven’t played for a few years and I have decided to start playing again so I can have something to do since my activities have been curtailed due to covid.

I read an older post here about doing a simple mod on an Epic bass. While I always enjoyed having the best sounding ax in the band I’m always up for improvement. Although I’ve been around instruments for over 50 years I’m a complete dummy when it comes to the workings of these things.

What does alembic have in the way of simple mods that don’t require too much science that can improve on the already great sound of my instrument? I suffer from extreme paranoia when it comes to taking off the back plates of instruments.

you can add a filter module to your existing vol pan , bass and treble controls or replace them. Alembic uses a modular approach so most things can simply be plugged in. Themost you may have to do is drill more holes as long as the new bits will fit into the same cavity.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

I'm not sure if you can simply add a filter to the Epic preamp, but what about a SF2?
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

For the filter You'll need a "EMW Y" conversion cable, then its simply plug and play.
There is enough room in the controls cavity, so you only need to drill one or two holes. (two for filter + Q switch)

Measure twice, drill once. (!) It is a tight fit.

Here you can see how I did it: http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=544.msg3657#msg3657
