Epic '94 and Excel '02 questionsq

I currently have an Epic 4-String, zebrawood laminate, mahogany back.  I have noticed on new Epic's that the bass and treble controls have center detents.  My '94 Epic does not have this.  Is it possible to retrofit my Epic with the newer electronics?  This is the only thing on my Epic which I have found annoying.  I never know where truly flat settings are.
 
Also, I am going to purchase my second Alembic tomorrow.  It's an Excel 5-string Zebrawood laminate and an ASH body.  I haven't had any basses with an ASH body, so can someone tell me it's virtues?  Also, the Excel I am going to get has EPIC/ORION electronics.  It sounds totally different than my Epic, but that's what I was looking for.  Just don't know if the ASH will be a problem down the road.
 
I am buying the new bass from Bass Central in Orlando, FL.  It's Beaver Felton's shop.  Nice buncha guys.
 
Don't worry Mica, I am still considering ordering another 5 string, possibly Essence or Europa in the future!

You can order the new version of the pots with the center detents for $22 each. Just call us at 707 523 2611 between 10-4 M-F to order (please have your serial number handy when ordering). If you want to replace the whole bass and treble module (so you won't have any soldering to do) that part is $150.
 
The Ash usually has more of a midrange bite to it. The Excel is a little different construction-wise. While the Epic and Excel are both set-neck models, the Excel has a three piece body, so the neck joint goes into a solid chunk of wood rather than the glue joint and two pieces like the Epic/Orions. The Zebrawood cap should keep solid sound, but with an open sounding sustain.  
 
In any event, you'll be hearing it soon and can share your comments about the tone. I'm curious to how the two Zebrawood basses sound different to you. Thanks.  
 
Play as many Alembics as you can before your custom order  - it's the best advice I can offer.

I got it last Saturday!!! I love the tone, and it's drastically different than my Epic.  Much more midrange presence, or at least to my ears.

Is the new electronics (tone module) any different from my existing module in my Epic?
