I just had a stunning brand-new buckeye burl MK Deluxe show up at the house, so regretfully I have to put my ‘90 Alembic Elan 5-string up for sale. As much as I’d like to keep it, I really only have room for 2 basses and so it has to go. This bass is a player and is not for the faint of heart tone, weight or size-wise. It has a cocobolo top, purple-heart neck laminates, a maple core and what appears to be a rosewood fingerboard. For a 30-year-old instrument, it’s in remarkable condition. It looks like its former owner(s) took care if it and so did I for the year that I’ve owned it.
It came with 2 fairly decent dings (one on the front, one on the upper bout, see pictures) on it that I had a local luthier seal up. The neck is straight, rock-solid and never moves. The action is low and fast. The frets have minor burnishing on them but no wear to speak of. The control cavity is un-molested. The case has seen some rough service but is intact and fully capable of protecting the instrument, although the latches could use some work. I string it up with rotosound RS665-LDs (like I always have done with my fretted instruments). On this bass it’s almost too aggressive, but I like a bright, in-your-face tone that lets everybody in the room know who’s in charge of the low end (and most of the mid-range too, for that matter). I don’t know what it weighs because I don’t have a scale, but I’d surprised if it was less than 12 lbs. I will get it weighed sometime this weekend and post an update if there's interest.
I’m going to put it up for sale here first for what I have in it, which is $2500 plus shipping. I'll take paypal, i really don't like to jack with any other payment methods. If no takers, then it’s off to reverb and/or (gasp) eBay. I can only upload low-res pictures, so if you want better pictures of anything in particular, let me know. I have tried over and over to get my email to work in my profile with no luck, so if you’re interested, reply to me in this forum and we’ll figure out how to communicate.
