Temporarily Borrowing an Alembic
« on: May 19, 2020, 07:28:42 AM »
It has been a very long time since I posted, but I had something I finally thought was worth sharing.  After a very long hiatus of not owning an Alembic, I am now lucky enough to have been loaned one.  I'll be heading into the studio in late June at the request of some friends.  I don't usually play bass, but I knew that if I was going to do it, there was only really one instrument.  It's a Elan -tulip wood and ash with purpleheart neck laminates.  It's 34" in scale and just one of the coolest and most fun instruments I've ever played.  I sold it to a good friend, and now I regret it. I don't have many custom instruments, but I have a few.  I would say that while different, the Alembic is just beautiful and it is a real treat to play some Parliament Funkadelic (plus a whole lot of Phil Lesh).  :)

Best Wishes to all weirdos, pyschonauts, and fellow musicians.

Well you have some great friends if one of them loaned you their alembic. I can't really see me doing that anytime soon. I hope the recording goes well and maybe we will get to hear some the tracks when it's done.

The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Thank you for the kind words!  I do have some really amazing friends and I am really grateful that they would trust me with something that is so nice.  I'll be honest, I'm not excited about the songs that they want me to learn, but going into a studio with an Alembic was too fun to pass up.  If I get a chance to squirell around and make some other music on the side I will definitely share it.  Take care!

Thank you Dave!  I have been having a great time, and I warned my friend he might never get it back (joking of course!). :)

I just also say it's great to hear about your next Alembic experience!  As the person who sold me that kickass Skylark, you brought me to a fantastic world of people and instruments.

Welcome back, enjoy the Elan!  8)
