Join an Open Mic on Zoom Thursday May 7th?
« on: May 02, 2020, 02:39:12 PM »
A friend has been organizing an Open Mic on Zoom.  The third one will be Thursday, May 7th, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time.   You can sign up to perform one or two songs (until the slots are all filled) or just watch if you want.   It was a lot of fun last week.   The sound wasn’t all that great, but it was a blast hanging out with a bunch of people for a while.   The most socializing we’ve done in six weeks!  If anyone here wants to join us, let me know and I’ll get you the necessary info.

The Zoom Open Mic went well except the host lost electricity at his home and for some reason hosting duties defaulted to me!  And it was only my second time using Zoom!  Still lots of fun and our own StephenR and his lovely wife Jenn joined in.   There should be another in two weeks.

   :)

I've noticed that on Zoom, the host can record the sessions.  Are your sessions being recorded?

Oh, and are you and/or others using an interface between the vocal mic and/or instrument and the computer?

Some are using mics, mixers, and interface.  Others, like me, just using the built-in camera and mic on the laptop.  Setting Zoom to allow “original sound” makes the biggest difference.  Also turning off automatic volume helps.   Some people had audio that sounded o.k., some less than o.k., but everyone had fun!  The issues were almost always with the guitar, not the vocals.   The camera on my laptop was pretty poor - it’s an old computer.  I switched to my iPad after I played and the picture improved significantly.   I just ordered a USB HD camera/mic on Amazon, so I’ll be ready for the next one.

As for recording, I believe it was recorded.
