Corona and other stuff
« on: March 24, 2020, 03:14:01 AM »
Hey my friends, I just want to tell you that we are in total quarantine here in EU because of corona virus, it is really serious, please do take care, I see that you guys are slowly coming to 3rd place in infected in the world, I know you are a big country, but because of that you need to take bigger measurement.

Here, only one family member can go to store for food and stuff, can't walk around the city, can't travel to other cities or leave the country.

Here is a map of Corona infected countries, please take his seriously.

I really don't know how you political views are, but as I can see from Trump's speeches, he's not doing it for his people, you should have been in quarantine 2 weeks ago. And hope that you are, I have a friend in Florida that says it's not going well there because of spring break, nice weather and beaches.

So, writing this because how heavy it is to stay home, we just had a major earthquake here in Zagreb, Croatia, a lot of people have shelters because they are with out gas, or water or heating. I now have big holes in my roof and can't fix it and it just started to snow, so even weather is not on our side. Last week was 60 degrees and now is 33. We didn't have this earthquake in 140 years. Old town (center) got pretty bad beatings. But life goes on. I'll just post some links to see how it looks like, my apartment has a lot of cracks (small ones) but in every room (hope it's just an ascetics). Here are pics of my roof and building and apartment (that was build in 1929). And, by all that, it is snowing right now and we are in quarantine from Corona.

My kid, my wife, me and all my basses are ok :)

But, again I urge you to take care from that Corona virus. Stay safe and take care.

Goran, hope you and your family are OK, the earthquake does not help things, that’s terrible!  Our state has a shelter in place advisory now. Everything except essential businesses (food stores, utilities, etc.) is shut down and people around here for the most part are staying home.  No people on the streets and very few cars during the day.  Cases of infection increase every day, but people around me are taking it pretty seriously now.  Very crazy, stay safe!

Goran, sending wishes for strength and resilience.  Having an earthquake on top of everything else must be so very, very difficult.

I recognize your statement and agree with it.  At the same time people shouldn’t have to rely on a government to use common sense and do what is the ‘right thing’ during an obvious crisis.  There appears to be self-serving individuals in this country.  Instead of listening to statistical data and scientific facts they are tra la la-ing about their lives with no regard for the greater good.   Very sad times.

Alternatively there are pockets of beautiful humanity popping up on social media.  People actually and SINCERELY caring about other people.  We should all hope that this type of behavior becomes a pandemic and continues even after this health scare subsides.  :D 8)

Goran,

I'm sorry to hear that your situation has been made even worse by having an earthquake in the city.  Glad you and the family are ok and hope the overall damage isn't too extensive.  Your weather is supposed to warm up by the weekend so hunker down and bundle up.  We'll get through this thing and hopefully emerge from the other side having gained some knowledge and more respect for the fragility of life.

Goran, great news that you and your family (and basses) are safe. Not so great news about an earthquake on top of the corona virus. At least as long as there are no bad aftershocks the earthquake will have done it's damage and rebuilding/re-homing will be the only ongoing issue. Agree that it is important for everyone to take the virus seriously and be thinking about the common good as much as they are thinking about how it effects themselves. Somehow we will get through this. Being in unknown territory certainly does not help with any attempt at feeling secure. It is also very sad that the USA, which used to try to lead in humanitarian efforts, is now run by greedy people who don't seem to care about anyone else even, apparently,  the citizens they were elected to represent. Wrong attitude at any time but particularly dangerous now.

Stay safe and keep in touch!

Good news that you and your family are ok. We in the UK were put on lockdown as of yesterday so only essential travel is permitted such as for medical reasons and if you have to go to work, and essential shopping. One trip out for exercise  is permitted as long as you do not get close to other people.

This is the Corona Virus widget I have been using to watch the progress. I'm sure some of you will find it useful.

Be careful and be kind to your neighbours, those who are less able and to yourselves.

JJ here at least there is a lot of disrespect emerging with hoarders taking so much that there is little left for others. Also shoppers getting into scuffles in shops due to restrictions on the amount of items shoppers are allowed to buy of the same item.
One checkout lady told me that she had a carton of baby milk thrown at her by a shopper because she would get another carton of the milk from the store room.

Let's hope human kind learns a lesson from this unfortunate situation and as you say get some more respect for the fragility of life.

I saw pictures online yesterday of parked cars in Zagreb that had been crushed by falling masonry.  Hoping you are able to get your home repaired soon.  Be safe and well.

Everyone take care and at a time when everyone here in the states is talking about the need for social distancing...make that physical distancing instead. Can't understand who came up with that term since it's being in the physical presence of someone with Covid19 that passes the virus on, not interacting with them socially which. We can all do in a manner that keeps us safe. At times like this we all need social supports which are hard to come by if social distancing is what we are doing. If your parents are still present on earth call them. If you've got siblings, skype, chat, zoom meeting with them. Let your friends know you are okay and check on their health. Just knowing that others care is uplifting. Find ways to stay connected...especially to those you know who are living alone and may not be likely to reach out to others.

Brian, excellent point about social distancing vs physical distancing and the need to stay in touch with, and supportive, of family and friends. Perhaps this will ultimately turn out to be the catalyst that gets people to think long and hard about our relationships to each other and the planet and, if necessary, set better priorities going forward.

So sorry to hear about that earthquake on top of the current health situation!  It really puts things in perspective on the important things in life. :(

Oh, Wow, Goran... I didn't even see the top part of the thread. I've been purposefully avoiding so much intake of the daily virus news, and dealing with the part of it that is directly assigned to me seems to occupy enough headspace. What an absolute nightmare. I hope and pray the best for you and your family there. We should all remember - It Can Always Be Worse.

I was talking to friends (old and new) over the weekend, and one theme that repeated in our conversations was the hope that maybe some positives will come from all this.

So sorry to hear of the injury added to insult, Goran. I'm glad you and yours are safe.

We started self-isolating about 10 days ago, but you are right, we need to do a lot more. The state of Colorado has just been put under a stay at home order by the governor, so I'm hoping that will help.

I just want to send my love out to everyone in these difficult times. You are all the best of human beings.
