Pickup sizes?
« on: April 20, 2003, 07:16:08 AM »
I know I have seen this before, but I can't seem to find it again.  What are the cut out sizes required for the various Alembic pickups?  I have been putting my dream together, but my girlfriend and I got engaged this weekend and I will be focusing on a wedding and putting my Alembic dream on hold for a little while.  But I was lucky in a way and my cat knocked a cup of coffee into my current Spector pickups.  So I will try to get some Alembic electronics for the time being.  I have a Spector NS-4 with a pair EMG-35DC.  Does any one have experience putting Alembic electronics on a non-Alembic bass?

Hey Dreamer, Congratulations.
I had a Spector (I forget the model) but it had a P/J configuration.  I ordered stock activators from Alembic and they fit just fine.  Now, If you have soapbar type pickups, MAYBE the AXY's will fit. They're a little less than 4.5  wide and a little less than 1.75 high  Hope this helps.

When you get your Alembic, dump the cat !!

Thanks Stoney.  I just measured my EMGs it looks like they are 3.5 by 1.0 I guess there maybe some labor involved.  Hopefully someone out there can provide some more info.  Maybe Mica can give a little insight if they could do the work at the shop.

Here's the sizes for Alembic pickups:

model length width AXY4 4.1101.750 AXY565.0001.750 MXY44.1101.220 MXY565.0001.220

We can certainly do modifications on existing basses. Each job is quoted individually and is subject to change upon first hand inspection. We always review pricing with you before starting any work.

You may also find a local repairperson to do the routing of the electronics cavities. Always make sure the electronics cavity is shielded properly, including the underside of the plate if it isn't conductive (like brass).
